Locked key inside car

So today I had something interesting happen. After washing my 2021 Cross Turismo 4S I moved the car back into the garage to dry it. After drying the body I wanted to open all the doors and finish up. But to my surprise I couldn’t find the key fob anywhere and the car was locked. I looked everywhere for 30 minutes with no luck. Completely frustrated I figured the only place the key could be was inside the car. But why was it locked? I have comfort access so I figured if the key was inside it should open when touching the door handle. On top of that why did it lock in the first place. I didn’t think that was possible. Luckily my spare key was inside my office and using that I found the original key sitting in space between the door and the right side of the driver’s seat. I must have dropped it getting out. Why did the car lock??? Has this happened to anyone else?

It is possible to lock the keys in the car:

"If the key is inside the vehicle when you lock it, the vehicle will be unlocked again. Several warning tones sound and the hazard warning lights flash four times. The vehicle will only be locked if a door, the bonnet or the tailgate is not opened within approx. 45 seconds, after which it can only be unlocked using a second key."

Locking would likely occur if the door handle proximity sensor was touched.

Was the car actually locked or just the door handles retracted?

Same happened to me.
I used to have the key in my laptop-bag ... when I get off work I put my bag on the rear seat, and then I get in the car ... one time I must have hit the sensor to lock the car and the car locked, and stayed locked.
I don't have porsche connect active, so no way for me to open the car with my phone or computer.
Luckily my spare key was also at the office, been keeping the keyfob in my pocket ever since.

So yes, it can happen.

You can unlock the car with the app if this happened away from home.

I had to do exactly this when the key locked itself inside the car, while I was washing it. Same as the OP. I'd left the key in one of the cupholders, was washing the outside, 20 mins or so later tried to unlock it using the door handle and it just wouldn't.

I assume there's some sort of timeout where the car will just lock itself anyway, even if the key's inside.

Ah this makes a lot of sense as to why the car wash service I take my vehicle to always has someone riding their vehicles. This is a hand-wash, low water pressure place in the Austin area that is the only location that will wash my car.

The car was locked. I closed the door and started wiping down the body and later noticed it was locked.

Thank you, I just looked at the app and you are correct. I never thought of that!

I also experienced the car locking with the key inside - it shouldn’t be possible, but it does. Now I never close the door until I have assured that my key is outside the car. My Audi doesn’t do that. If the Audi key is inside, the doors won’t lock.

With the app you can open it again - just make sure that your mobile isn’t inside the car as well ….

Porsche should correct this !!
