Hi
I am about to receive my new Taycan 4S in coming week or so…. and kept flipping on the decision due to the pretty much constant bad press. However, I saw the following YouTube today (see link) …. is this true? anyone else experienced this?
Basically Taycan battery recall makes car fire risk so impacting home & car insurability ?
Anyone else experienced this?
Thanks

Have you gotten any notices from your home insurance company? If not, you're all good. If you go get denied coverage, try different insurance company, and if you cannot find coverage because of the Taycan (important), sue Porsche to buy back the car as uninsurable, therefor failing "built for purpose" (the purpose being daily driver charged daily at home).

I am curious why the guy in the video won't say the name of the insurance company. If they really declined coverage, there should be no problem telling people about their decision (nothing do to with the databases being interconnected, which I think is just a scare tactic from the guy who made the video). Maybe the insurance company sent a letter why they declined coverage, and it might not have anything to do with the Taycan (which would explain why the video author won't publish it). Here in the US you can get declined home coverage for having too many claims for example, even if those claims were very small in payouts.

Bottom line, the video seems a little fishy, lacking facts, making conjectures appearing to make sense to people who don't think about details.

This guy's hysterical outbursts against the Taycan are just clickbait, a waste of time. Don't give any credence to what he says.

I've had that letter too. Not bothered. Porsche has taken a hit for a brand built on reliability and endurance, but it's still a great car. I hope the remote monitoring of the battery works without me having to take it in, again.

It shouldn't make the car - or your house - uninsurable.

Enjoy your 4S.

Well, I ignored my own advice and watched this guy's video. He's been with the same insurer for his car and house for - 20 years?! And his entire premise is that because they will no longer cover him for his car because it might catch fire (even though the Porsche letter doesn't say that), the whole EV industry is in danger of meltdown?

A suggestion. GO AND GET ANOTHER QUOTE!

I've had my Taycan for over 3 years and have been with 3 companies over 4 years. One refused to renew after the first year, and yet they were the lowest price a year later.

Utter hogwash IMHO

Any car can catch fire and there are more non EV car fires.

The issue is extinguishing a fire.

Porsche are being proactive and transparent here and have issued letters to impacted owners (I am one) funded no doubt by the battery manufacturer (who aren't Porsche).

I agree that the guy's being a fanny and should simply shop around. But....

One version of the Porsche letter very much notes that until a car has been inspected, they advise not to charge the car adjacent to or under other buildings and/or park it adjacent to or under buildings.

IMO that's a problem when it comes to insurance. If you ignore that advice (I have never seen an ICE car come with a warning/advice not to park it at home!) and there's an issue, I can imagine home insurers and Porsche all sucking through their teeth.

The letter I received does not state that. It simply notes the car needs to be Internet connected so it can be monitored, and will get new monitoring s/w in Q1.

But if I'd received/do in future receive the one that notes not to charge/park the car adjacent to/under buildings, I'll be having a deeper conversation with Porsche. Insurance is one aspect... The safety of my family is a much bigger one.

My letter doesn't mention charging to 80% or parking limitations either.

I wonder if this is a US (class action) thing?

I got ARB7 letter in the US, nothing about 80% or other limitations.

So far no but I know when I bought my Taycan RWD last year, my insurance company, AARP/The Hartford told me they will not insure the Taycan Turbo. I don’t believe it has anything to do with the battery and it’s just a speed/too high performance thing.

Since there are fewer reports of EVs spontaneously catching fire over the last few years I don’t expect insurance companies to take that position if they had not already back in 2020 & 2021 when enough EVs burned to cause concern among potential buyers.
I think the causes for these fires are well understood today and the risk is no more than an ICE vehicle to catch fire or at least I hope so…

The UK guys are referring to WRS0 in the main which is "Checking high-voltage battery cell modules and installing battery diagnostic software".

No limitations on charging etc just a pre-emptive measure for OTA diagnostic software which will present in the digital cockpit as a warning should something untoward occur.

Software will be auto deployed (if car online and privacy mode not active) during Q125.

This is different to ARB7 I believe.

The 'idiot' in the video has the same letter for this campaign and makes no alarmist remarks, comments or suggestions.

Well he's a right bundle of fun isn't he.

A cynical person may assume that his ex wife has rinsed him - and he is making clickbait videos that appeal to all the EV haters - to try and make a few squid.

Obviously not what he's doing........right?!?

........but do press that subscribe button, so he can carry on selflessy making these public service documentaries, just for the good of humanity.
I assume he gives all the money he makes to deserving charities?

My wish for 2025 is that YouTube bans all these wannabe Jeremy Clarksons that proliferate on its platform.?

PLEASE STOP watching and reposting the BS from this clickbait merchant. He is moaning and moaning, to generate YouTube revenue for himself at the expense of depreciation for us all.

Sorry if I'm repeating myself (I always tell the same story when MacMaster appears in a thread), but I've met this guy. He's called Lee Davey, and his girlfriend lives a couple of streets away from my mum in Leeds. About two years ago he asked me to film a vlog with him driving in my Taycan from Holland to Leeds. We had a meeting and discussed what the video would involve, but before we had a chance to actually do the filming, I pulled out. His videos became so full of nonsense that I just couldn't do it. He lies and manipulates footage to show a completely false scenario. Other videos he's filmed include being on a flight suffering from "severe turbulence" when it's clear he's just shaking the camera. By far his worst video, however, is one where he alludes to potentially having cancer despite the fact that when he published the video he already knew he didn't have it.

Here's his WhatsApp message telling me not to reveal to his viewers that he actually likes his Taycan. He's also threatened to go to my employer for "stalking" him (his definition of "stalking" is apparently commenting on his YouTube channel). The guy is an absolute weapon.

Nope.

ARB6 in the UK (unless the photo's been 'shopped. But to what end?):

https://www.taycanforum.com/forum/threads/arb6-recall-notice-uk.22854/

ARB5 was posted up by a US user I think.

And a few of us have had WRSO.

My assumption is that what you get depends on VIN/whatever diagnostics they have.

The communications are incredibly poor for something safety related/so fundamental to the car IMO, and written from the point of view of not seeing the company blamed rather than the customer. As an accountant led firm these days, I guess that is no surprise.

It would be much better if they opened up and explained what the different letters were for. One time hit "All battery related. If you get WRSO, do this. ARB5, this.... ARB7..."

I'm getting the impression they know what they should be doing (replacing battery packs) but the bean counters don't want to go there.

That thread is based on my letter from Porsche and definitely not photoshopped. The dealership still have my Taycan as I refuse to take it back. At present we are trying to agree a suitable buyback price but with catalogue of problems Ive had with it and now this, I will be pushing for a full refund.
