My car is charging right now via the Mobile Charger Connect that is connected to Wi-Fi at home and I believe I paired with My Porsche App. Just got all of this yesterday.

here is what the app looks like while charging. Is this what having the nicer Mobile Charge Connect shows you? Or is this normal and I’m not actually looking at the right place to see the additional data from the Mobile Charge Connect? I don’t see for example, where I can tell the car to stop or start charging, it’s just pulling from my profile.

thanks in advance.

PMCC is no different

I've not found a way to start/stop charging directly - you can fiddle with direct timers/profiles with the app however and those changes can cause charging to start/stop - but it's a bit indirect…

this is why the eV charger does not matter - it isn't that smart - all charging is controlled by the car (not the external box) - the car can charge from any EV charger - and the same scheduling and control is present because the EV charger is "stupid" and just an on/off switch to let power flow or not flow…

the fancier and more expensive (too expensive) PMCC has the following

1. wifi - PMC+ does not have Wifi- what you are seeing your app is the "car's view" of the charging session - it will be the same with _ANY_ EV chargers (EVSE) - for example charging at a public charger at the mall/business.
2. LCD screen
3. the ability to upload charging statistics to your porscheID portal
4. adjustable "amps" so you can lower the amps from the maximum
5. interface with the Porsche Home Energy Connect (HEC) for "smart" power manaagement - HEC to date is NOT a thing in North American - so that functionality is so far un-tapped.

functionally the PMC/PMC+/PMCC/PWCC are identical in terms of charging the vehicle - with no more/less control over a charging session.

Thank you very much for all of that. My follow up is what good does the charger having Wi-Fi do if everything in the App is the same without it?

that is an excellent question

all I've found so far is that you can get charging statistics via your porscheID (read only - accumulated total kWh's)

so in my opinion - not much - YMMV

oh and you can also get OTA software updates for the EVSE (EV Charger) that Porsche can use to lower the charger's performance to keep it from overheating and melting…

https://www.taycanforum.com/forum/t...fing-neutering-the-pmcc-via-ota-update.12791/

Porsche charges $1120 for the PMCC as an option - $3200'ish if you try and order one completely separate from teh vehicle…

basically it's $1120/$3200 for something where a 3rd party $200 will do a better job and not melt/overheat while doing it…

use the PMC+ for as long as it works for you - but if for some reason you want better, there are numerous non-Porsche options that are cheaper and better, but it's hard to beat included/free.

My new GTS was delivered with the fancier one. But then I ordered the Wall Charger which I think you can attach to a 100 AMP circuit for faster at home changing, and that just got delivered today. So I’ll see how that goes. Thank you!
