Makes sense to have a test drive, this year we plan to take 2 trips, Essex/Stuttgart/Porec/Padova (in laws)/Parma (more in laws) Genoa (even more in laws)/Varigotti and then somewhere in the Langedoc and back to Varigotti. A decision can wait a while, they'll still be making them.
There is no shortage of charging stations in that part of Italy, if charging is your concern. However it is necessary to do some research about subscription to different service. The screen shot I have enclosed shows the stations with >150 kW. And there are more that are not visible at this zoom level. And if you zoom in and add 50 kW stations, there is a huge choice.

Tesla has one advantage in charging. It is so simple, lots of stations and you just plug in and it works. So a bit more effort required but it is so easy nowadays

Thanks, I'm afraid I've gone down to the "checking the hardware" level on this stuff, Alpitronic hardware seems bullet proof, ABB and Tritium used to be but don't seem to have stood the test of time. Free2X (I think they're owned by the group that own the Autostrada are putting in Alpitronic's, 2 each side at various service stations (which is a benefit compared to many Tesla sites which are off motorway), from memory they're putting in 150's. I've used those and Fastned's in France who also use Alpitronic. Never had a good experience at Ionity in the UK, France or Italy so I tend to steer clear, I'm sure they're fine in Germany.

I would expect this experience to be up and down as supply of cars and infrastructure catch up with on another, it's just one of those things. But they all need to work on the integration between the charging networks and the cars, summer holiday queues at chargers are going to get heated otherwise.

UK is (or was) the land of converted former WW2 airfields becoming the “local” race tracks.

These days they’re more likely to be housing estates though ?
Out of curiosity, I Googled Santa Pod- it used to be RAF Podington, which was loaned to a USAAF Bomber Group in WWII, which might have seeded the local population's unusual interest in drag racing that emerged in the '60s ;)

Just read PPE platform will store certificates used when the car handshakes with the charger, speeding it up for the next time.

You see, give the engineers a problem and they'll solve it :)

Not much help if you never go there again though :)

I've just installed the recharge certificate on the ID.3 to enable plug and charge, we'll see if that works. Also installed a certificate for Octopus but not sure it runs the 2 at once (seemed to deactivate the Octopus after I installed the WeCharge certificate.

Fun and games
