Anyone know the max wattage for the Taycan 12V cigarette lighter connector? I'm wondering a 1000W inverter (1000W) and a matching hair dryer or space heater as an emergency would be a good idea. You could heat up the cabin and or defog the front windshield (heat on max, recycle air, then AC max for defogging).

EDIT: apparently there is a 20A continuous usage limit on the combined 12V cigarette lighter usage. so 240W is the highest power heater you could use on that. Maybe I should make a "Taycan emergency heater" which would plug into the 12V plug and attach to the windshield with some suction cups, blowing on the windshield whenever the car is ON. Perhaps market it as an "Emergency EV heater/defogger".

Still working after 4k miles / 18 months. I have it set to Sync, Eco, Auto on low power to keep the stress low, but it’s rarely used.

Wow, they apparently already exists and you can buy one on Amazon for ~$15. For those stuck without a heater, or those like me attempting a 3,000 mile (5,000km) drive home from the dealer through the frozen North America. At the very least I would be able to defog my windshield to get somewhere safe to park, should the heater go out on me.

Reviews aren’t particularly glowing (bad pun alert) though…

Yet, I still think it beats not having one when your Porsche heater secures you a spot on a waitlist for triage, two weeks out.

It’s a 150W heater, something most reviewers missed. It’s not going to instantly or even quickly defrost your car. It will help defog so you can see where you’re going, barring some extreme cold and icing. Most cars, Taycan included, will not support any higher power from 12V. Taycan is not a Ford EV, which offers optional 3KW or even 7KW 120V inverters on the F150 Lightening - there you could plug in a 1400W space heater inside the car, even 4 of them at once, defrost your car in no time, probably faster than with just the built-in one.

PS) I picked one up (not sure if this particular one) for my upcoming trip. $15 is cheap for having one extra option should the heater crap put on me in the middle of nowhere.

For your big frozen trip: What about keeping a small portable power station / inverter like an EcoFlow in the back of the car for an emergency supply and a more powerful heater? More expense and cumbersome though.

Edit: oops I see you already posted that suggestion a week ago ?

Don't forget to store it next to a noco 12v battery booster.

Soon our frunks will be topped up with devices to counter multiple system failures.

No issues yet, but, living in CA I doubt the heater is too strained.

I wonder at which point this will become an official recall, as in they will start swapping the heaters our proactively. Or is it that now that they are publicly traded they will not do it unless forces by some government regulatory body (maybe more people should report this to their national regulatory body as a safety issue, like what Tesla owners did for dying main computer which killed defogging and backup camera capabilities, so Tesla finally issues a recall and free replacement of the main computer module).

Does anyone know what exactly the problem with the heater is? I read they are just swapping them with identical units. Does that mean a batch of bad parts got in the manufacturing of the heater I wonder

I was wondering the same, is the new unit an optimised/improved unit or do we just get the same thing and hope for the best... By the way mine is done tommorow, so it took them (only) 5 days.
