Kevin,

I curb rashed one of my rims, so this will be my first time using my tire/rim protection plan. Are the rims typically in stock or do you need to wait a while? The damage is purely cosmetic so I can definitely wait. Lastly, if I buy new tires during the coverage period, do I need to buy them from Porsche to keep the warranty valid? I was hoping to never use this, so I didn’t ask enough questions. I have an email into my SA as well…but if you see this, let me know if you have a second.

Tom
Tom,

For curb rashes, they will repair the rim and not replace it. As for the tires, I have gone through Discount Tires before, and filed the claim myself, but that was a pain so after that I go through the dealer. The downside is the dealer charges $50 to install it, which is more than DC but can't remember by how much. The dealer does have the black wheel weights that match the black rims perfectly...same as the originals. I definitely don't want to ugly grey weights on my black rims. The dealer scratched the rim when they mounted the tire, and so happen that the wheel guy was on site, so he fixed it while we waited. DC would have to send it out to an independent repair shop for that. So, the extra cost is worth it to me.

Hello. In the next couple of days I plan to take the leap into the Porsche world for the first time. I've specced up a nice 4S Sport Turismo with lots of options and am just mulling over whether to go used or new. There is a high-spec used 2022 one with <5000 miles priced at 15% below what it would cost today.

Question for the group if I may: what's the strategy with negotiating with SAs in the Porsche world? Is there anything I should explore - eg for the used one, some added value they could throw in?

Would welcome views from those are more experienced at this game than I am. Thanks.
Treat it like any 2nd hand car. Only new purchases attract a "non negotiable" stance.

If trading then you'll get an inflated price if not you could trim something off.

If no dice then, discounted alloy wheel and tyre insurance, new mats, Porsche Experience day, Getchniq paint protection.

Check dealer stock of new. Mine oddly claims to have 15 new cars mostly ST variants at what looks to be lower than list price.

Thank you for the info about them repairing and not replacing the rim, hopefully a day job or so. I wish I had phrased my tire question better. When it’s time to replace two (or four tires) for the first time (regular wear and tear), will the warranty cover the new tires if I buy the set off site/not a Champion Porsche? I’m guessing if the new tires meet manufacturers guidelines, they will. Thanks again. T

Ahh, good question. I didn't read the policy close enough to know, but I think it's covered because they never asked me where I purchased the tires when I did the claim myself. I always buy my tires from DT other than when I went through the dealer for the claims. As for the brand changes, since the original tires were already the brand that I like (Michelin), I replaced them with an identical set so there was never an issue with the claims on the new set. But I'd think, as you've said, if you go with a Porsche approved set, they'd be covered as well, but I am not sure.

My approach to negotiating is as follows. I determine what I’m willing to pay for a car. I offer that. If they refuse, I move on. There’s always another car.

I don’t negotiate a dollar.
