Does anyone have experience with the newer Porsche Dashcam? When I had my 2022 Taycan the reviews were horrible. Ended up going with the Vantrue N4 Pro and it was great. Ordering a new dash cam and saw the option for the new Porsche Dashcam. Would prefer to just have it come with the car rather than go after-market again.

How is the new one? In parking mode, does movement trigger it so that it records when someone or something approaches the car? How is downloading the video and overall use of the app? How is it at night? Does it have license plate recognition?

Thanks.

Had the Porsche dashcam fitted when I picked up my J1.2 in March this year.
Had a FitCamX in my J1.1 but my insurance co insisted on a front and rear camera for the J1.2 - hence I went with the Porsche item and it was dealer fitted.

It's still ugly, but the front one isn't really visible and the rear isn't seen too often so I can live with it.
It does have some integration with the car, but nothing special. So, know where near as advanced as Tesla's cameras from several years ago.

I've since had one occasion when I wanted to use the footage but struggled.
A bellend overtook me on a blind bend going in to a 30mph zone and he was doing circa 65mph. The sun was very low and the front camera quality was poor and I couldn't get the reg plate (to be fair, even the latest iPhone would have struggled). I could view the rear camera footage whilst sat in the car but I found it impossible to get the footage off the memory card and on to my laptop (it would only show the front camera) so I gave up.

Overall, a necessity for my insurance. Gives some piece of mind. But like so much Porsche software, the execution leaves a lot to be desired and is over priced for what it does.

I have one in my new macan ev.

It's expensive. Pre-wiring + pricey cam + pricey Porsche workshop fitting. They do a good job though.

App remains poor. I really struggled to get it to talk reliably to my iPhone. Gave up and used an old Android tablet and it worked fine. Limited functionality.

It talks with a sexy German accent. Almost worth the asking price.

I've got it to talk to a 256Gb SD card. Didn't work with a 1Tb card.

For reviewing and saving clips, the app is clunky, and my connectivity issues make it a pain in the hindquarters. So I remove the SD card, BUT I'm reasonably certain the stupid thing wipes the SD card each time you re-insert it. So, back up the entire card if you ever do this.

It does not do proximity triggering AFIK (maybe in a firmware update?) - it will trigger if it gets a bump. Hopefully this would include breaking a window, but as there's no internal surveillance, likely to be of limited use in those circumstances.
The bump triggering is quite sensitive - I get it boinging through potholes or over speed bumps.

So, I like:
- the voice
- the easy "throw money at Porsche and it gets done" purchase

I would like:
- Better app - reliable connectivity, real time view/review
- remote view/review
- internal surveillance
- proximity triggering in park

I think there are better options out there if you can find a careful installer
