Satellite Map view is only available if you subscribe to Porsche Connect Services. So stupid..
The earth/map consist of a lot of tiles. Google charges quite a bit for each small tile—think around €0.001 per tiny square. It might seem minor, but it adds up fast! Plus, every zoom level counts as new tile. So for this feature I get the extra costs.

Here is more info about the pricing. It is not this API but assume the costs are the same: https://mapsplatform.google.com/pricing/?utm_experiment=13102541 If I play around a bit and with the guess that 75% of 150k Taycan use this feature (including destination searches) I see Google charges Porsche around 750k a month. That is around $7,5 per active subscriber per month. Adding software costs (power + software development + maintenance) and the $27 each month for the whole package is not so bad anymore

Unlikely Porsche or any big automakers pays that price. 100% they have some deal/contract with better pricing; as they would use it for all of their fleet, not just taycans.

But good info, never knew this was paid per tile

I was watching a PCW video about the j1 and j1.2 differences and in the comments PCW suggest some of the SW features will be pushed to us peasants with a j1.

What do you all think? Is PCW trustworthy? I used to watch all his Taycan videos in 2022 to get an idea of which options were available and never heard false information.

At the j1.2 unavailing, the platform head designer/lead said the same, that some of the software features from j1.2 would come to j1.1, but no timeline/promises.

I think he said as much in a carwow/topgear interview around the same time also.

But since then, it's been silence, on any update ?
