That's right, it's easy to install — takes about 30 minutes. The overall performance is very fast, even faster than the PCM
With SIM card support, there's no need to use a mobile hotspot.

Can you install this in a Taycan with no existing passenger screen?

Important warning regarding aftermarket passenger displays and warranty implications (Porsche Taycan)

I want to share my experience to help others avoid a potentially very expensive mistake.

I purchased an aftermarket Android passenger display for the Porsche Taycan (≈ USD 950), based on forum recommendations and product listings claiming USB power and non-invasive installation. Before installing anything, I took the unit physically to my Porsche Center and asked for an official technical assessment.

After inspection by the service advisor and workshop management, Porsche explicitly rejected the installation.

Key points from Porsche’s assessment:

  • The device does not operate via USB power as advertised
  • It requires direct connection to the vehicle’s fuse box (ACC / B+)
  • This constitutes an unauthorized electrical modification
  • As a result, both the remaining factory warranty and the Porsche Approved warranty would be void
  • Porsche would place a warranty restriction flag on the vehicle
  • Any future electrical issues could be excluded from warranty coverage

The installation itself was described as reversible, but that does not matter from Porsche’s perspective:

any non-approved electrical consumer connected to the fuse box is considered a warranty risk.

Real-world example shared by Porsche (decisive for me):

During the discussion, Porsche referenced a concrete customer case:

A Taycan owner suffered a major electrical failure. Diagnostics revealed an unauthorized third-party trailer hitch with its own power supply, connected without Porsche approval.

Even though Porsche could not conclusively prove that the hitch caused the failure, they explained that:

  • The Taycan logs electrical loads and current anomalies
  • Any non-approved electrical modification is treated as a potential contributing factor
  • As a result, the entire warranty claim was rejected
The customer had to pay approximately €34,000 for repairs out of pocket, despite the vehicle otherwise being eligible for warranty coverage.

Porsche’s position was very clear:

Once an unauthorized electrical consumer is connected, all subsequent electrical damage may be excluded from warranty, even without proven causality.

Conclusion / personal decision:

I did not install the display.

The financial risk is simply not acceptable.

An accessory that can potentially invalidate warranty coverage on a six-figure vehicle is, in my view, not viable — regardless of how well it may work for others.

I am now pursuing a refund via payment protection, as the product was not usable under Porsche warranty conditions, contrary to its description.

I hope this helps others make an informed decision.

@PDAZ, you could very easily convert the display to be powered from the 12V adapter, or maybe even USB. Would your dealer then say it's ok? The story does sounds a bit like something made up to scare customers into only buying Porsche products, like some people reporting here that their dealers tried to tell them charging from a non-Porsche EVSE would void the warranty (so I guess no public charging allowed, lol).

Side note for folks in the US, there are additional legal protections requiring the auto manufacturer to prove that a modification has contributed to a failure before they are allowed to deny warranty.
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Magnuson–Moss_Warranty_Act

Perhaps EU doesn't have such consumer protections in place.

@PDAZ did you really expect Porsche to approve non official equipment and even install it for you? Especially since it's just some Chinese product. It's always at your own risk. I don't think anyone else would expect something different from Porsche.

In @PDAZ defence he wrote:

He wasn’t asking the dealer to install it. We should be grateful for his warning!

Convert it to run from 12V socket if that preserves your warranty (unless your dealer tells you the 12V socket is just for decoration, if you plug anything into to you will lose warranty).

On USB the memory function will be lost, as the Chinese Manufacturer told me, Not s valid Option.

You could get a power bank, plug it into the 12V adapter, then 12V from adapter becomes ACC for your screen, and 12V from power bank becomes B+. Power bank powers the screen when car is OFF, car charges the power bank and powers the screen when ON.
