Morning all,

I wondered if I might ask if anyone’s experienced anything like the following?

I came back from London the other afternoon and arrived home with 12% SOC having left work with 75% or thereabouts. I came into the house for 30 minutes and went back to the vehicle to make a quick local journey (less than a mile). As soon as I powered the car on the SOC dropped to 6% immediately. After my short journey I got back home and it said 3%. On that basis, I’d have been rather naive to have relied on most of that 12%.

Additionally on slow charging to 100% overnight the range has dropped precipitously from 245 to 205 at full. The car is going in for a brake fluid change in a couple of weeks so I’m going to ask the centre to take a look at it but thought I’d consult the hive mind as well.

Thanks for any enlightenment. For clarity, it’s not on fire either. ?

Could it have been that the car was preparing the battery for a fast charge? So battery heating activated???

Could be a result of change temperature. Was it colder feet the charge? Did you drive harder on your last drive compared to earlier trips. Could be a lot of things so check how you charge level and range acts once the car is on the move again.

Hi there,

No, it had home as a destination and so was just at normal operating temperature. Regardless, it arrived with 12% and was 6% after 30 minutes of being parked up.

The range might well be partially temperature related, yes, as our Indian summer has just ended!

It was really the 6% almost immediate loss that was concerning. I’ll get the OPC to have a look and see if all is ok!

Thanks for the reply!

Do you have the CarScnner app and an OBD reader? If so then check for the voltage levels across the different battery modules. They should all be equal.
But certainly a good reason to ask the service guys next time you bring the car in.

I don’t at the mo, I keep thinking about grabbing one. This may well be the motivation I need!

Dont expect the voltages to be different when you are up in the top end of SoC as that is where they will be balanced and likely they will be similar in the middle portion of the charge. Run it down to 10-12% again and see if any of the cell voltages are low. Look for a delta of over 50mV.
