One of my challenges when specifying my GTS was knowing exactly what any possible negative impact was for any given option choice - were there any hidden compromises that weren't clear on the configurator?

Some are completely obvious - as you can't select them - for example, adding 18-way sports seats removes massage function. However there are plenty of more subtle ones. It would be great to use our collective knowledge/experience to build up a list.

I am happy to keep updating this initial post to keep a central list.

Note, this is about the compromises, not the benefits.

Ones I can think of to get started:

OptionImpact
Electric Charging CoverBlocks side vents along doors
Remote ParkAssistLose 'Curb' view
Sport Turismo or Cross Turismo body shapesMust option Roof Rails, and therefore pano roof, to be able to mount roof transport systems (no mount points available without roof rails, unlike sedan which has mount points with pano roof without rails)

Rear spoiler is gloss black on CT and body coloured on ST.
VLC roofSlight milky effect on glass
Thermally insulated glassSome reports of mobile reception issues. Dashcams require very careful positioning (under black dotted area) otherwise camera GPS is unlikely to work.
Comfort Access via FODMiss out on close+lock buttons on the boot lid vs ordering Comfort Access from factory
Innodrive via FODApparently not feature comparative with factory option - not clear what the differences are though?

Need to have ACC option from factory
Bose or BurmesterBoot space reduction (would be nice to know exactly what the difference is, other than a quoted change in number of litres capacity - I understand it just raises the height of the floor by a couple of inches)
Without 4-zone climate optionCannot seperatly control front footwells
4+1 seat optionIf optioning with 18-way front seats, reverts design of rear seats to the 14-way design.
Rear Axle Steering (RAS)Warning - rear wheels steer towards curb when turning away from parking space. Need to adjust habits when leaving space to avoid curbing.
Heads-up Display (HUD)Adds plastic trim around dashboard display to house the projector, which some may find unattractive
Rear seat heatingRequires 4-zone climate control option for touch screen control - otherwise it adds two physical buttons at the rear.
ParkAssistSlightly changes design of wing mirrors to add cameras.
Interestingly, on the configurator, Remote ParkAssist appears to remove these again - can anyone confirm this? (likely just a configurator bug)
Seat ventilationReports that it makes the seats firmer - needs confirmation though
Rear seat airbagsPossible risk of injury or death to dogs on rear seat in an accident
Without Ambient lightingNo puddle light retrofit. Ambient lighting option provides wiring for puddle light option.
Without Dashcam prepCannot retrofit Porsche dashcam - although pre-wiring prep option doesn't actually provide wiring up to camera mounting point, so of little use.
22kW chargerWithout this option charging limited to 7.4kW (UK and 240v countries when using a *single phase supply*) or 11kW (US or other countries with *3-phase supply*).

With this option charging rate increases to 22kW (UK *and only on a 3-phase EVSE or supply*) or 19.2kW (US on 240v).
18-way seatsDeselects massage option
Headlining in RacetexRear parcel-shelf matches roof lining, selecting this option also makes parcel-shelf Racetex

RAS- need to adjust when parallel parking against a kerb, leave gap for rear wheels steering towards it when turning away from kerb.

Other things ive spotted and cant work out - sometimes I see there are handles behind the front head rests (for rear passengers to use when getting in and out) - but other pics ive seen, they arent there. I wonder what the options are that make them appear or not. Obviously rear entertainment would remove them, but would rear entertainment prep (for example).

Heads Up Display — adds plastic trim piece around dashboard display that many find unattractive.
I noticed OP incorrectly added this item as “some”. ?

4 zone AC adds a digital control screen for temperature and seat heating in the back. Without 4 zone AC the rear seat heating is with 2 buttons.

Is anyone aware of any specific compromises (other than cost of course!) that these options could have?

  • Rear airbags
  • 22kw charger (perhaps additional weight?)
  • 150kw charger (same, additional weight only downside apart from cost?)
  • Rear axle steering and PDCC (presumably some extra weight again?)
  • Massage function and ventillation (eg does it make the front seat deeper and reduces rear leg room?)
  • Lane change
  • Dashcam prep

ventillation
Some people report ventilation makes the seats stiffer. At least in other models. I assume it applies to the Taycan also, but I can’t confirm.

Can't recall where I read it, it might not apply to the Taycan- the additional rear airbags could seriously or fatally injure dogs on the rear seat.

Don't understand the Remote Assist kerb view comment. Press on the either camera icons and you have kerb view from the front or the back...

Ooh - thats interesting - I dont yet have a Taycan, currently in build, and I did option Remote ParkAssist, and have heard that while it adds the '3d' view, you lose the kerb view - I'd be thrilled if that was incorrect, as it nearly made me not option Remote ParkAssist. Ill remove if incorrect.

22kw - bloody expensive and never used it in 1.5yrs
150kw charger. cheap and should be standard. No-brain option. I and my sales guy had no brain - doh.

I am in your exact same position, and since my order was already V215'd, I made a trip to the dealer to check on two specific things and get non-color stuff finalized properly. One was whether I could get something in writing that aftermarket full activation of matrix headlights (US market) would not void my warranty (failed on this front, dropped the matrix headlights from the build).

The other was what you describe here, and I think you are right, so I did exactly what you did - drop RPA, because I think the direct side view is far more useful. I think that when I walked into the dealership, my SA thought I was a raving lunatic spouting nonsense from the internet, but by the end of our investigation, he came around to agreeing that both (a) yes, this happens, and (b) yes, the "kerb view" is far more useful than the 3D one.

Now, it is entirely possible that this is simply a UI screen real estate issue, so tomorrow could see an OTA that somehow mitigates the problem, and I have no idea whatsoever about the probability of that.

Fortunately, the dealer had two Taycans on the lot, parked right behind one another, and one had RPA, while the other didn't. The one without RPA has a tab icon to give you a "sandwich" view, straight from the two side cameras - I assume this is what you refer to as "kerb view". The one with RPA repurposes the space taken up by this icon for the parking assistance feature itself. The "sandwich" view icon is not present, and neither of us could find any way to activate it elsewhere.
