I’m not sure where this belongs, so hopefully the moderators can move it to the appropriate section if needed.

For coding in PIWIS, you need a VCI. Many people running cloned versions of PIWIS rely on a cloned VAS6154, but in my experience, the VAS6154 can be hit or miss.

I own three PIWIS clones. For the legit Porsche VT4G, I’ve been using a Bosch GM MDI 2. It works well and is on Porsche’s compatibility list, but it does not work with cloned versions of PIWIS.

I recently came across the TOPDON RLINK J2534, which costs about a quarter of the price of a Bosch MDI 2, roughly $250, and it has been a game changer.

It works not only with VT4G, but also with cloned PIWIS, eliminating the need for a hacked or cracked VAS6154. As a bonus, it also works with GM’s GDS2, Ford’s FDRS, and other OEM tools.

Compared to the MDI 2, it’s less clunky and easier to work with. It supports J2534 and PT3G (DoIP) for online programming. It’s a solid all-around tool, especially if you work across multiple vehicle brands.

To enable PT3G mode, you do need to pay a one-time Porsche PDU Driver fee of $99. That license is tied to your account and is valid for life, or 99 years, whichever comes first.

I have no affiliation with them. I just wanted to put a plug out there for what works.

Do you have link to where to buy it?
Google it. TOPDON RLink J2534. I don’t have a secret or sponsored link. It’s widely available from diagnostic shops, TOPDON directly or Amazon.

Yep works with my PIWIS 3 and 4 clones and my PCSS VT4G. I have not tried it with the VM versions of PIWIS.

MDI 2 works perfectly fine with cloned PIWIS as long as you install the driver and modify the paths in regedit to point to its driver :D

TOPDON RLink J2534 is $200 USD, its software supports it natively, and you don't have to muck around with your registry. 🤷‍♂️

What can you reprogram on a Taycan with the PWIS?

could you do something like unlock the full capacity for someone who got a J1.2 replacement battery in their J1.1?

Pretty much anything that can be done is done with PIWIS as it’s the tool Porsche uses.

I think your question is less about what can be done and more about can you find someone with the skillset to do it? Certain aspects of PIWIS are not point, click, done.

Honestly, I appreciate tools like this that just do the job without extra friction, same reason some people gravitate toward Fast Payout Casinos https://lunchatthelibrary.org/ in their downtime. When you jump in, things resolve quickly and cleanly instead of dragging on. Whether it’s diagnostics or entertainment, efficiency makes a big difference.
Definitely valuable info for anyone juggling PIWIS, especially across legit and cloned setups.

@ecko04, do you know if you can program the DME with the TOPDON? I don't have a Taycan, but need to do it on my 996 and have had no luck with other interfaces via any version of PIWIS or VT4G.
