Plug & Charge with Fastned in the UK

Has anyone tested if P&C works with Fastned here in the uK?

I used Fastned in France and the UK last year. P&C didn't work at all.

Raised the issue with Porsche in June 2022, still waiting for a reply.

Fastnet uses it's own proprietary Plug & Charge mechanism based on the vehicles VIN which has nothing to do with the official Porsche Plug & Charge.

The advantages is that their approach works with many more vehicles (as long as the VIN is sent to the charger) and the disadvantages is that it is somewhat less secure – if someone could spoof a VIN they could coax the charger to give free power (in theory).

@tigerbalm if I might add, they do not send the VIN but the MAC address of the OBC charger. For most EVs that works, but some EVs (e.g. VW MEB based EVs) change the MAC address constantly.

That makes sense and I do remember reading that some cars have the MAC address off all models of that car set the same and so can’t use this approach.

Thank you for the correction and it makes sense why it’s not the VIN which is not something that is usually shared around easily.
