As extended warranties are essentially insurance products, does it not make you wonder how insurance companies make money on this? You would think the insurer would be losing money and stop selling this product, or more typically start adding coverage exclusions. Since it hasn't happened yet, I suspect on average they make money on the extended warranty.
i’ve been thinking the same, but will buy it anyway!

That is certainly true for insurances in general. I guess in our case we are insured by Porsche and their internal cost for fixing a problem is (a lot) less than what they would be charging us to get it fixed. Because of that the extended warranty can make sense for both parties. Win/win because of high margins :)

Are you saying Porsche pays the dealers significantly less for the same work that a customer would pay, and that they pass that difference to the customers in the pricing of extended warranties?

I would assume that Porsche supplies the replacement parts to the dealer and their cost to supply them is a lot less than what the dealer typically charges the customer.

You should add to the poll an option for an owned car and purchasing an extended warranty.

At 40k miles on my owned 2020 4S+ I've purchased a Porsche extended warranty to 8 years to align with the HV battery warranty. I'll keep the "classic" and upgrade at the 7-year date when better battery technology will be available, and a NACS plug. Ideally with a generation 2 Taycan.
Agree, I assumed the OP was british and using slang when saying “lease” and meant for owners, will you seek an extended warranty.
If that’s not what he/she meant, they should amend the poll to include this. I voted based on the options available and the implied meaning.

FYI lease isn't an Englsh slang word for warranty or buy.
The location of the poster is marked as USA in his header, complete with stars and stripes too...

What made you assume that?
Porsche Taycan Poll 1702204251388

By the way, whatever assumptions, there is an obvious option missing "I will figure it out when faced with the decision". Who knows what car options are available at the time people's Taycan runs out of warranty, or how much extended warranty will cost at that time. Who knows how their experience up to that point will be. All important factors in deciding what to do next. I highly doubt many people outside of those leasing have a set plan on what to do next. Even those who lease might leave that decision to me made closer to lease end, as more information will be available at that time. For example, anyone saying "I will move to another brand" is obviously either right at the end of their lease and have their eye on a new brand car, or is just venting their frustrations with their Taycan today, but really doesn't have any concrete plans.

Because location doesn’t equate to nationality. I’m an American currently in France as an example.

Given the fact I’m not British it would be safe to assume I wouldn’t know what all British slang is, hence the misinterpretation/assumption. Just as you wouldn’t necessarily be familiar with all American slang.
Additionally, as stated above just because someone is located somewhere does not mean that’s their nationality.
But thanks for the input…

That is why I put FYI.
I have spent lots of time in the US since my first visit in 1970 and of course we are inundated with US films and TV programmes so I am pretty familiar with US slang…

Also assuming British is a bit of an extension on the weird US construct of “British English” which I assume is a hark back to early spell checkers.
English slang and Scottish slang are quite different, for example, as is the frequently used vocabulary (I am married to a Scot).

I worked in France for 4 years btw hope you are enjoying being there though I was in “La France profonde” not Paris.

If you are not British, nor know the British slang, given the OP location shows USA, why assume they were speaking British slang then? There are other English speaking nations out there, and even more people speaking English as a second language. Why not assume OP was speaking Australian slang, or Canadian, or South African, or any of the other 80 some countries where English is an official language? ;)

I’m currently back and forth between LA and Paris, a bit exhausting at times and won’t do it forever but I can’t complain. Paris is one of my favorite cities in the world, there are far worse places to spend time away from home.

Because outside of the US the brits are the next most active on this forum. . . they could have been from anywhere, it was an assumption. Clearly not a correct one in this instance, but one nonetheless.
