“Porsche Engineering’s development advantage in this regard is the combination of extensive software expertise and comprehensive knowledge of vehicle technology. Added to this is our expertise in vehicle dynamics development, which enables us to predict exactly which vehicle parameters we need to implement a particular function," says Pretsch. Just as agile as the software development is the adaptation of the development methodology to new requirements or conditions. One aspect that plays a much greater role in the vehicle than in other app application areas is the testing of the software.

Ho hum. What a bore. Here in Silicon Valley where software engineering is practically the most common tech related job after IT it doesn’t sound good that Porsche is using Agile for this smartphone project. Why? Because the implication is that they haven’t been using any software methology until now. If they had, this ”innovation” in Porsche software development wouldn’t be news, it would be old news unworthy of publishing…

Totally agree. Agile has been a corporate buzzword for a very long time - Porsche might be the last place where it's a "new" thing.

Would be nice if they learned to release updates for the actual vehicle too...

I work at Meta and sent this to a colleague. If they’re proud of using Agile in 2023 then I weep for German automotive software dev cycles.

Agile was all the rage in 2014. If automotive software is that slow to adapt, especially Porsche, I don’t have high hopes for any automaker besides Tesla…

OMG!!

Fail faster...those of us who are long term Taycanites would have preferred a more traditional approach to software development.than the MVP we got, with a degree of testing thrown in for good measure!
