I need a 4 wheel alignment for my 2022 Taycan 4 CT and have not been able to find a shop that can do this besides the dealer. The dealer quoted me $800.00 which sounds very high for the task. Has anyone worked through these issues? Why the extended costs? has anyone used a private shop for a Taycan alignment?

Porsche AG/PCNA[?] quotes the max install hours for Taycan alignment at something like 7.5 hours in their shop book.

The reason for this is that the camber on the front suspension can only be adjusted by manually adjusting the position of the front subframe. Access to the subframe requires a lot of work including removal of the front bumper which also means you need to recalibrate the cameras/sensors.

Most dealerships will quote the max allowable bill rate, regardless of what needs adjusting. You should ask for the readout that indicated you needed an alignment in the first place, and, if the front camber is not out of alignment, try to negotiate a cheaper rate given the rear suspension toe and camber adjustments are much simpler.

I can't speak to using a private mechanic but my dealer just recently quoted me tire replacement with alignment. They said the alignment cost is tiered depending on your equipment options (ACC, Innodrive, etc.) and the tiers were something like $300, $500, $700.

Edit: that was with purchase and balancing two tires. May be higher without bundling.

Audi was even more when they quoted me, while Honda was something like $400 even with all the driver assistance features.

I scuffed one rear wheel and needed to check alignment and was quoted and completed for $200. My read out was not perfect (green all around) but slightly off, so I asked for full alignment quote, that I decided to defer on when I need tires replaced, and they quoted $800 by saying that this is an all day process that involves sensor calibrations, that did not make sense to me. Now, this makes sense based on what is involved per @Paint_To_Sample, thank you.

$800??? Wow, seems like a deal. Yesterday my dealership here in San Jose, CA quoted me $2,200 for a full front end alignment. To me that seems absolutely insane, but I'm not sure where else I can get it done.

Surely you just let your tyres wear a bit more quickly and don't bother. Much more cost efficient.

Chances are, you'll drop 2.2k, drive out of the dealership and hit a speed bump/pothole 2 days later and the tracking will be out again.

I’ve heard that if you replace the windshield under a comp insurance claim due to rock chips the dealership has to do an alignment and recalibrate the sensors. So theoretically I can get a new windshield and alignment for a $500 deductible.

That’s recalibrating the sensors in the windscreen - eg speed limits, emergency braking etc. nothing to do with alignment of the tracking of the wheels.

I just had my windshield replaced by Porsche and a full four wheel alignment was indeed performed. Apparently, the alignment is done to center the steering and "baseline" the camera and sensor recalibrations. Two wheels were slightly out of spec and corrected.

They did a great job on the entire replacement and it was convenient for me to have a loaner due to heater recall also performed. The total was a scary $3850. State Farm paid without any pushback, but WOW.

Yes this is true, i had my roof and windshield replaced. Porsche redwood city did the alignment and recalibrated the camera/sensors

My deductible was $100 for comp claims, insurance paid like $12k for everything.

Farmers, no push back on the cost. I originally filed a claim for rock chip on the roof but then the body shop broke the windshield. Farmers paid for that too
