22 RWD PB+. Mechanical grinding and lurching behavior yesterday. Seemed obviously rear powertrain transmission or motor related.
Dealer says motor needs either rebuild (?) or replacement. Waiting for guidance from Porsche NA or AG.
Car is JUST out of warranty on mileage and barely on time. Anybody had rear motor unit replaced both either under or out of warranty, cost associated, and time frame? Obviously kinda gutted.
TIA.

This is not good!

Odd that it is 'just out of warranty' and only faulting now.

I would push the dealer on this as others have said - goodwill - and ask to see the service history for the car in full.

Ditto, e..g., politely and yet firmly get them to move to granting you a goodwill warranty.

My J1.1 Turbo S went in for something (I can't recall what for) and I received a phone call advising they had found an issue with the rear motor and it would need replacing. I had not noticed anything unusual.

It was within warranty and therefore I had no issue. I recall the whole rear axle was replaced including brakes.

The process was fairly quick, shipped from Germany to the UK within 2 weeks and fitted.

I have no reliable memory on what they said the cost would have been - obviously it was a lot but I can't recall what they said.

I agree with @W1NGE it would be a good idea to ask for full diagnostics of the previous service history to see if it had any reported anomaly.

I hope you get it sorted in a favourable way to you.

I have owned the car since new and had dealer service done. No anomalies reported in 3 years of ownership other than going in for regular recalls.
They have mentioned putting something together for PCNA to make a goodwill warranty claim and this would seem like a reasonable and right thing to do.
Will find out further.

Oh no, I assumed Taycan has 8-year/100k miles battery and drivetrain warranty. Tesla has 8-year/120,000 warranty on both.

Just googled Taycan only has 4-year/50k miles on powertrain. Another reason not to own a Taycan after warranty expired.

Oh I just realized it's 4 year/50k miles and not 3 year/50k. So it's just out for mileage but well within time frame. Let's see if that makes more of a difference. It's over mileage by 3k miles.

Yes, front motor at 84K km. Outside warranty. Even with Porsche paying for the parts still 11K Eur to pay. You need to get extended warranty. I immediately extended the warranty. This car drives beautifully if it has no problems but it has a lot of problems. Considering to sell it for a BMW M5 CS

I had one replaced under warranty. There was a low frequency hum at low speed, with a bit of steering input that at times would shake the car like a subwoofer. First they said they found the transmission fluid had leaked, so they stopped it up... the sound came back and I pointed out that if the trans fluid had leaked it would surely do some damage and they eventually replaced it. I believe it was the transmission and motor to make up the complete drive unit.

Did you mail about, called about or told the dealer about the problem before warranty expired? If you did, persist you already shared the malfunctioning during the warranty period. Else persist on goodwill or try to make a deal where you pay for manhours not parts. Good luck! Hope it will end well for you!

did it break spontaneously or because of a small accident? Is it worth to include your insurance company?

No warning at all. So nothing really to involve insurance with really.
There was nothing to report to dealer before this, and it's been in for regular maintenance and such. I think they will come through with goodwill coverage.
