My 2023 Taycan ST GTS was taken back to the dealer today for the APB2 recall (high voltage battery leakage testing). At the same time they did WPN8 - repgramming of the PCM (optimised software).

I’ll be collecting it tomorrow, so I’ll let you know if I notice anything different - anyone else had this upgrade and seen any significant changes?

The usual efficient service from Porsche Mid-Sussex - they also checked tyre wear and I was pleased to see very even wear across all tyres. The car has now done around 4,500 miles. Brake wear was showing as 10% all round, but I imagine that it’s only measured to the nearest 10% and clearly brake wear is higher in the first 500 - 1,000 miles before re-gen properly kicks in.

One thing that did surprise me was how sluggish the loaner Base model Macan felt on the drive home!

I had my GTS checked this week, haven’t noticed any difference in the PCM (whispers: haven’t had any problems with it anyway).

Also had a Macan loaner, it felt ridiculously slow even in Sport Plus with the 20 second boost, when I got back in my car the difference was amazing.

I’ve done 5000 miles and still have 7mm of tread, obvs not trying hard enough ?

So what happened? Did APB2 succeed? What did the invoice say they did?

LOL, every time I get an ICE loaner, I'm always surprised every time I put the accelerator down - a whole lot of noise but the car not pulling hard as I would expect in a Taycan.

Very similar experience for me:
- no differences noted (but not previously had any issues)
- Macan loaner felt very old fashioned and sluggish, but still drunk fuel at an alarming rate!

My tyres were down to around 5mm after 4,500 miles so you definitely do need to try harder!

Had mine done yesterday - nothing to report and oblivious to any changes. Got a free pen for my troubles and Macan S loaner was poky enough.

I finally had this done a couple of days ago (last year!). Tl;dr: no issues, clean bill of health.

I first reached out to the dealer back in Sept(?) when the recall notice popped up. The service advisor stated that the test kits are issued per VIN, and must be approved and shipped from Germany. This must have taken a while, as I heard back from them just before Xmas. Took the first appointment they had, on 12/28, and was informed I would also get a PCM software update.

I was provided with a (base) Macan loaner - apparently a Taycan would have been another choice, but they had none available. Awful car, though “Sport” mode seemed to give it more urgency - but just a bit. Virtually indistinguishable from our ‘15 S, and indeed I prefer the interior and exterior of the older model. As an aside, this car had the full leather interior package, and I can confidently say a leather-covered dash does nothing for me. (Nor do the logo’d puddle lights.) I can’t imagine why someone would pay $60k+ for such a vehicle, although it was easy to see the Porsche traits: the deviated stitching on the leather was just spot on - an elegant contrast and perfectly even.

Brake pads (17.5k miles) were at 8mm front, 9mm rear, which is better than expected (by which I mean my poor visual approximation). I have not noticed any changes in the PCM - it seems for some reason to default to nav upon starting the car, and CarPlay seems to take a bit longer to activate. Nothing else to report- other that, ffs, I am now spoiled forever wrt ICEs: can’t see myself going back to one, willingly, for any length of time. (In fact, my year-long rebuild of my 996’s engine is nearing completion, and I really, really hope that first drive will be magical.)

Hi all, I’m looking for your opinion on APB2. It’s for my 2023 4S CT. I’ve gotten 3 differing answers from the SA‘s at 3 dealers:
1) back in November, I called the nearest dealer to me and they said they had to order a (consumable) test kit for my VIN, and did so. They said it would be a LONG time coming, many months (it’s already been 2 months). They said they are still waiting for the kits for cars they have in stock.
2) today I called the dealer I bought the car from, 70 miles away, and they said they had kits in stock, and made an appt for me, with loaner, week after next.
3) then I called another local dealer, and THEY said there isn’t a test kit per VIN, they can do the test at my convenience. That SA also said they’ve tested about 15 so far and no replacements indicated yet.

Can anyone shed insight, is there a reliable leakage test without the test kit sent from the factory for my VIN?

edit: I’m up for the PCM update too.

Thanks -

It’s probably a combination of 1 and 2. 3 sounds to me like they’re not replacing the test valves, so I’d be wary of that dealership.

I called my local dealer back in Aug/Sept - whenever the recall notification went out. My dealer gave me an answer near identical to 1 above. They came back to me in late December (without my prompting them), and scheduled me within days.

I don’t know if the VIN was just protection against dealers unnecessarily stocking a part with limited availability (which would explain 2, if that eased up), or if there was something else behind this requirement.

I tried to book my car in for the testing a little over 2 months ago. The 3 test kits that the dealership received had already been used on cars waiting for delivery. No estimate on when more would be received. The story I was given was that ordering a kit by VIN was just a way to control the allocation of kits to dealerships that had customers waiting for the test. Not sure this makes any sense as the kits are a plastic adapter that they probably produced 5,000 of in a single run (from a subcontractor). There is nothing VIN specific about the kit. Same kit for every car. Fast forward to today and my dealership has plenty of test kits in stock, and they are not a huge dealership.

So no, there is no test kit other than that available through Porsche and only Porsche can do it for warranty purposes. They do not need to order it specific to your VIN. Any dealer should have a supply in stock by now. If a dealer says they don't have any and can't get you in just cross them off your list. It is easy to get the test done now, subject to having trained techs with room in the schedule.

Thanks for the quick replies. So - I called the SA at local dealer #3, and they confirmed that in fact they do the proper leak test, and that they have test kits in stock. So I have an appointment booked with a loaner. All‘s well that ends well!
