I had similar fears. Especially paint fade which I fortunately got ahead of.

My PPF shop did the work and it looks perfect.

My thinking was: remove one, if the paint mismatches underneath I’d order a new one and replace it.

WD-40 will work wonders on the glue residue. I debadged the model definition in the rear in my car 3 months ago, it was super easy. The hard part was putting the badge back on last month... yeah, my wife is convinced I’m crazy.
