Replacing the rear tail light

If I know the commands, the solution will be simple: A small circuit between the 8 pin connector and the tail light to send the proper LIN bus commands to light up the logo. I already made an electronic design, but I don't know the commands... yet?

Another thread on this topic seems to have ended without anyone finding a good solution other than buying the modified tail light controller from Chinese sources. Still, you may find this thread interesting:

Just to clarify the rear lightbar that I bought from ebay shows the 2024 time stamp on it. Its only the lightbar bar without side indicators.
Yes, with a new lightbar wiring connectors are upside down but it still connects fine without any modification to cars originalwiring. The light bar letters work as on a new model without any wiring modifications or piwis coding.

That sounds promising indeed! There could still be a chance that the only thing I am missing now is the wiring from the BCM2 to the tail light. However, I'll attempt to do that when the temperature outside is a little more friendly. Thank you for clearing up that your car does not throw error codes because only the center tail light has LIN bus, while the sides do not.

For the lightbar it was just plug and play. No coding needed. If you also.want yellow side markers like in Europe coding will be required.
Got the lightbar from eBay, Latvia guy. Great dude, good communication. Everything works like it should.

i am ready to buy this same part (same seller) and he mentioned after installing, the light “may need to be coded itself.” I’m not sure what that means. Also, doesn’t sound like that was your experience, right? You just removed old part, installed new part (plugging in pin connector) and viola, it worked?

Correct. Just for the light bar it was plug and play. You need to be sure to mention that you are in US and need a US option one. They sell Euro ones too and these have a different connectors and maybe need to be coded.
The one he send me worked without any coding.
Coding needed if you also installing euro yellow turn signals. This is my next project...

So I got the light bar from the same eBay seller and it works well at night, but during the day when I activate the left blinker it now causes the PORSCHE letters to also blink. The right blinker doesn’t cause this issue. Additionally when I press on the brake pedal the lights also turn on. Anyone seen this behavior? The seller is now telling me I need to replace the side taillights to match the rear led and to prevent issues.

I installed it during the evening, and when I tested it that night it worked fine, but the next morning my wife drove behind me and she mentioned it. It only happens during the day, when the DRLs are on.

Does it work properly in daylight? Myself and one other have a problem where in daylight the LED Letters light up when the Brakes are pressed...

Then also when the left blinkers are flashing in daylight, the Logo blinks with the left side flashers

No, my works totally fine during the day or night. Sounds like you will have to use PIWIS to code your car to this lightbar. Dont think side turn signal lights will fix this issue.
Maybe ask the seller if the lightbar was converted for the US spec car. If this is the same seller that I used he told me that they sell Euro lightbars and also US version. Maybe you received a Euro spec?

Thanks unfortunately it's a no go for me on my US spec - I have a early 2024 J1.1 and it's probably not compatible - the command sequences that the car sends is probably not interpreted and compliant on the the light bar sold by SparePartsOEM (Ebay) probably only works on older J1.1 models.

I spent several months back and forth /w SparePartsOEM and they claim that the car has errors or that the signals aren't grounded properly but I find that very hard to believe given that these aren't analog devices, there's a IC controller in SparePartsOEM's modified light bar that probably needs reprogramming to account for the coding changes on late J1.1 models

As part of a refund arrangement Ill be shipping my light bar to someone in NY who purchased from SparepartsOEM - whoever you are that bought it - just note this caveat

I 'm also out $318.00 bucks for Diagnostics at Porsche and got a lecture about trying weird mods and next time just buy one /w the feature - they had almost sent the lightbar back to Porsche for investigation and it was a mess trying to get it back (bleh).
