Has anyone yet found a direct replacement camera for the Taycan that keeps all the view options but makes the picture better, I'm sure it would be hard to be worse especially at night.

Is the reversing light the night issue, if so are there ways to improve the reversing light?

Agree. I also want to replace the camera. The fisheye view is disorienting, especially when judging distances. The distortion on the individual cameras makes it impossible for me to gauge distance more than about a foot away. I hate that.

FISHEYE -- the view that is just below the default is slightly better IMO (it's the second from bottom button, tap that and things flatten out a bit, but you do lose the lines). I find that when I am needing a more precise view of parking I switch to that view, plus the ultrasonic sensors, and I'm "ok" -- but agree, the camera in general regardless of which view is meh compared to other modern cars I've owned.

LIGHTING -- I think all US-based Taycan have the rear fog lights; turn those on when you are backing up (easy to do tapping the instrument cluster Botton left of steering wheel)- that should help illuminate your way a bit more.

Tried the suggestions, it still blows. I appreciate the suggestion, but the rear fogs light up nothing that I can see and the other camera view not really helpful either.

I park in a dimly lit parking garage at work and I literally cannot tell how close I am to anything when backing up. I can’t believe this isn’t one of the most visited and commented on threads on the forum!

I’m seriously considering dumping this car and taking what I guess will be a big financial hit…that’s how bad, and dangerous I think this camera is.

Maybe on some cars not a huge thing, but this one already suffers from compromised visibility looking backwards from the front seat.

Shame on you Porsche!!

Please share a photo of what you are seeing. Perhaps your rear camera has moisture trapped in the lens, or another repairable defect reported by others on this forum.

These photos are actually as good as it gets in low light conditions. I really wish I had some pics from the other day in the rain bc any water on the lens and forget about seeing anything. But even in these, everything is SO distorted that it’s really hard to keep your bearings.

In my BMW 840 the camera was so good I could’ve driven in reverse even in the dark.

Far from Porsche quality and frequently dangerous - disappointed this is not already resolved; it is likely a software update but costly (i.e you need to bring the car to the dealer)

Software upgrade?? I'd probably pay up for something which brought the image up to the level of a BMW, etc. I also cannot understand how Porsche could have released a backup camera/screen that is so lousy (and dangerous). One thing I did which helped a little bit was to put the backup screen on maximum brightness (level +5). It did help a bit ... just wish there was a +15 level.

The other thought I had was whether brighter back-up bulbs/LEDs could be used. That would also be a pricey change but I might be willing pay it (up to a point).

Wonder if you can upgrade the LED reversing light to a brighter one to make reversing in the dark safer.
I think another problem with the reverse lights is their placement, they’re too high on the rear and they point straight out so I’m not sure they light up anything at the level of the bumper or below that.

The resolution is like looking through a fun house mirror. I purchased that car during the day…not sure I’d have gone through with it if I’d seen the reverse cam in the dark, but I love the car so much, who knows.

I am going to also get some pics of our SQ5 reverse camera in the same position as the pics I took the other night and show the dealer. Likely won’t do any good, but can’t hurt.

The fundamental problem of the rear camera is perhaps that it is so low that in order to get the full view a lens with a wider angle than usual was needed. That is a styling related (hiding the camera) problem which a different camera or software may not address.

Having written that, for the first 35+ years of my driving life no car had reversing cameras or sensors, so as a problem it is exaggerated somewhat IMO.

I had to point out the reversing camera and the view on the screen in her car to my wife, she had neither noticed its existence nor used it since she got the car, and actually still doesn’t :) but that could be because it was me that pointed it out ;)

We both learned to drive cars in with no driver over-rides or aids but these cameras and sensors are nice to have and do make driving so much easier.

Similar but a little fewer driving years experience. Sadly, I've noticed that automotive styling has changed over the past decade or so, to the point that cameras and driver aids are now almost necessary to see the vehicle limits and due to increasing blind spots.

I feel you. But let me say this. The Tesla cameras are even more stupid. When I bought my X plaid, nobody told me there wouldn’t be any sensors and a front camera. To this day, I am so pissed. Crappiest parking system in the world = Tesla.

I hate the Porsche cameras, but it certainly is a step up above Tesla.

overall, it feels like parking cameras have gotten worse and worse over the years. My 2005 bmw parking cameras are better.
