Hello all, I’ve been lurking for a few weeks and would appreciate feedback on my RWD spec vs a dealer configuration that is similar. This will be both my first Porsche and first EV, daily driver in Southern California, and I’ll charge at home. We have a large diesel SUV for road trips. I have test driven a base RWD without air suspension and a 4s, and though I loved the 4s, the RWD is a good fit for my budget.

My custom build locks in a few days and should be delivered in late July. It has most of what I want, but I feel like it’s a little overloaded, as I was hoping to stay at or under $100k.
Porsche code: PMTBJBI8

However, I found this one yesterday, which will arrive at port in a week. Biggest differences are lack of performance battery, rear wheel steering, and apparently surround view since the dealer didn’t spec the full premium package. Aesthetically, however, it is a match for my spec.

For those with new RWD’s, or just general thoughts, what would you do?How critical is the performance plus battery?

Old adage still holds “Buy the range you need not the battery you can afford“.
Speed wise very little in it

Are you in a hurry and/or expecting to get a bigger discount if you buy the dealer car? What's the reason for you to consider "settling"?

Honestly, not in a rush. I can wait. And the RWD’s are flying off the lots around here, so I don’t think I’ll get a dealer discount. It’s really more that:
1) I’m approaching the price of a 4s, especially if I add full leather (considering), and I’m not sure that it makes sense to option out a base model this much. I don’t expect I’ll keep this vehicle as long my current one, since the tech will change and improve over the years.

2) I’m just not sure how much the options I’ve specc’d will make a difference, haven never driven a RWD with either the performance plus battery or RAS. But I’ve read a lot of comments here.

It sounds like both of you are suggesting that I just wait and get what I actually want, given the difference in options. I’m inclined to agree! Thank you.

I specced my RWD to the cost of a Turbo, idiotic really but I really do want something slower and having driven a base RWD it fits the bill perfectly. I also want all the bells and whistles, and Porsche are great at letting you do this. It’s your money spend it how you want.

Thank you! I haven’t had a new car in a very long time - so many other priorities. Very excited about this purchase, and this helps me feel better! For the record, I started this journey convinced I was getting a Model S. I rented a 2020 Model S for a weekend and ended up driving it to the local Porsche dealership, where I did another test drive and placed my RWD order. In terms of drive experience, there is no comparison!

I did almost the same 50k euro in options. Drove the RWD and it was more than enough for me. I just like all the comfort and performance options, to good to pass. And life is short.

I am also happy with the 'slower' RWD model. I would sooner have additional range over more speed.

I am coming from a BMW M2 and am at a stage in my life where I don't need more speed and a rock hard ride.
I hardly ever get close to maxing out the M2 nowadays, as its not realistic on public roads and I don't track cars. So that's my starting point....

The RWD sounds ideal for me and in budget.

I wouldn't own one without the performance plus battery + air suspension.

I specced without air suspension - can't tell the difference (having test driven with air suspension) !; visually the car does not seem too far off the ground with steel springs; I generally went pretty basic on the spec; and am really happy; if anything wouldn't bother with electric sports sounds (a quiet version comes as standard which is more than enough); wouldn't bother with folding mirrors - car looks better with mirrors pointing out (albeit risk of mirrors being clipped)/ bose is fine - but tbh base audio im sure wouldn't be too bad unless you are an audiophile.

I went for partial leather beige interior- really happy with it - obvs Im sure full leather could be nice; but Im happy with what I ordered and doesn't feel like i compromised too much.

only thing I would spec as an extra would be to go for 20 or 21 inch wheels; but the 19 inch ones are ok in real life.

Bose is worth it. Base stereo is 150 watts and no depth. If you're only going to listen to podcasts/talk radio I'm sure it's fine.

I just got a speeding ticket. I should have waited for the RWD or the CT4

I had no tickets until I got my Tesla Performance, had 3 since, hence my need to get a slow Taycan as I can’t be trusted to control my right foot.........

Speeding is easy in a EV. So quiet when blasting past Johnny law they don't even hear me coming at WOT ;) ?
