Hi all.

Was wondering if anyone else have experienced issues with the steering on their Taycan.

Got a 4S+ 2020 model that just this week developed the following symptoms:
- hard to turn fully at low speeds - but when turned far enough it will almost «jump» into a turn, like the steering wheel almost hits a bump that it then suddenly overcomes
- feels imprecise at higher speeds, but not like a «dead» centerpoint similar to an old style worn out steering box.
- and just today squeaky noises from the steering column at a point very close to the steering wheel (i.e. in the cabin)

Recently got new set of summer tires - R20. Got about 2000 km on them without any problems. Running on 3 bars pressure to avoid the early worn out edges. Always keeping an eye on tire pressure.

I do run in «Range» mode from time to time on long hauls, otherwise mostly «Normal».
Not done any «spirited» driving with the new tires and they seem fine threadwise.

I’ve booked an appointment with the dealer, so waiting to hear from them, but would be interesting to know if anyone else have experienced something similar.

Regards,

So the verdict from the dealer`s garage is in. Turns out the intermediate steering shaft needs to be replaced. I had my money on 12 volt battery issues, so was happy to be proven wrong. Now just have to wait for the part to be sent up from Germany.

As a side note; I had a Macan base model as a replacement vehicle this weekend. I`ve driven them earlier, and my initial reaction was that it is nowhere near a Taycan in agility and sportiness - naturally (It`s a family SUV). But this weekend`s drive up to the mountain cabin changed that impression somewhat. It really is a great ride going over uneven and potholed mountain roads (maybe that`s where the steering shaft got a beating). On those roads the SUV got into it`s own. So for it`s intended use, I really like it. Also battery milage is noticeably better than on the Taycan. Will I trade in the now old(ish) Taycan? Probably not yet anyways. It is still the best car I`ve ever driven.
