Did you try to set the air conditioning to recirculate? If the smell disappears, it is something outside of your vehicle. Your garage, for example.

Chemical smells, especially a urine or ammonia-like smell can happen if the air conditioning evaporator tray is not draining. This is caused by a plugged drain duct. Here is how to test whether this is an issue. I looked online for instructions for cleaning the drain, but couldn’t find anything solid. Perhaps someone else can chime in (and there is always the option of having the dealer check the AC drain).

Quick AC Drain check
  1. Park on clean, dry pavement, preferably after the car has been out of rain.
  2. Start the car; set climate control to LO/maximum cooling, with the blower at medium-to-high speed and recirculation on if available.
  3. Let it run for 15–20 minutes with doors closed.
  4. Look underneath the car around the front passenger-side/forward cabin HVAC area for water dripping. You may need a flashlight and may have to look inboard rather than directly at the outer rocker panel.
  5. Open the passenger-side front footwell and feel the carpet and under-mat area for fresh dampness. Clear, odorless water appearing after A/C operation points toward condensate; coolant would usually have color/odor and requires a different diagnosis.vehicleruns+1
A healthy system generally produces a visible drip after sustained A/C use in humid conditions. No drip is not definitive in very dry weather, so repeat the test on a humid day or after a normal drive with the A/C operating.
