Very good news this morning! My car is booked on Hoegh Bangkok to depart Bremerhaven on the 5th of April which is next Wednesday. It is a 53 day trip to Port Kembla which is relatively fast. Arriving late May and hopefully a mid June delivery, and if that holds it will be 15 months from order to delivery.

And we have movement - not too long ago the Hoegh Bangkok departed Bremerhaven on it's way to Port Kembla (Wollongong near Sydney). Thanks to Vessel Finder for this image. The TYD app/website has not quite updated to reflect the vehicle has left port but I am sure it is not too far off. I have confirmed with my dealer there are no flags against my VIN, meaning the battery issue has been resolved during manufacturing.

Next port of call is Southampton, followed by Le Havre, Santandar, Durban and Melbourne. Only 56 days of shipping time remaining.

Day 5 of the journey South and the ship has stopped at Santandar for a quick unload/load, maybe some Cupra's, which were launched last year in Australia.

I have only just noticed on the shipping schedule a lengthy delay in Melbourne. In all 10 days. Why is the stop so long?

Vacation for the crew or crew change over? Vessel maintenance? Essendon v Richmond at the G? Extended customs and quarantine delays due to vessel fumigation? Whatever the reason, it's unbelievably frustrating. We could have the car unloaded in Melbourne and have it shipped by road to Sydney in a day or two. It will be a case of so close and yet so far.

Patience is a virtue. You are very close now. What's 10 days compared to your total wait? It should not change much. My biggest fear at this stage was potentially missing parts causing a stop-sale until they can be installed. The dealer told me they didn't see anything on their end, but that they won't know for sure until the car gets to them (I told them I want direct truth throughout the process, no beating around the bush - if you don't know, say you don't know, don't make shit up). Lucky there was no stop sales, so I was able to pick the car up a few days after it arrived at the dealer.

Thanks for sharing your journey thus far.

I was just a couple of weeks ahead of you at build commencment and your post made me invest a little time into figuring out which ship my car would land on.

My car is a Volcano grey CT4S and is travelling on the Hoegh Oslo, which I know from your previous posts is a true express service at ~38 days from Bremerhaven to Melbourne.

Like you, I will have some delay at Port and I hope it truly is only a couple of weeks. The issue is likely related to quarantine issues, not enough staff and rigorous requirements:

https://www.drive.com.au/news/quarantine-crisis-deepens-thousands-cars-stranded/

My dealer shared with me that they had a customer who had to wait 3 months and only just got delivery. Hopefully they get their stuff sorted by then!

Good luck to you for the rest of the journey ??

Thanks for your continued support! Yes first thing I checked with my dealer once the car was on the vessel, is were there any issues with the car as I need to sell my BMW. They confirmed no issues listed against the VIN and they see no reason for any further delays. Yes it's only another 10 days and overall 15 months from order to expected delivery which seems about 'average' timing across all of the forum posts I've been reading. And for Australia, given fewer manufacturing slots compared to other countries, not too bad. Yours impatiently...

Thanks @Megatron for your post and support. Your CT4S definitely got the fast vessel and I look forward to your pics and post when you've taken delivery.

The article is fascinating, and while I instinctively thought quarantine may be a challenge, it is clearly a massive issue. Our port efficiency as a country has never been that great and I can only imagine the knock-on effect of these delays to the shipping companies and car manufacturers. The supply chains of the world are integrated and even Australia can impact them.

I am somewhat bouyed by the fact my car will arrive into the heart of the Melbourne winter, so hopefully any bugs and slugs die from the cold. New car sales have clearly gone mad and I wonder if this is going to flop the other way at some point with interest rate and cost of living pressures.

I don't world in a field close to transport and logistics, but had thought the same that it is disappointing that we seem to be so inefficient in effectively processing. I do however work in a field close to cost of living pressures and believe your point to be correct, new car sales will slow soon if they haven't already (Porsche will likely be fine though).

I've just advised been to expect a mid May delivery. So the dealer is only expecting a 2 week delay.

I'll let you know how I go and share pics too. I put my deposit down in Feb 2022, it's been an arduous wait since but we're so close now!

While this will not come as a big surprise to everyone on the forum, Track Your Dream does not provide real time, real journey shipping updates - to Australia. Rather it supplies a timeline proxy for the vehicle journey.

You can see from the first image from TYD my car on it's way towards the Suez Canal and down the east coast of Africa and then straight onto Australia.

The second image shows the Hoegh Bangkok actually heading down the west coast of Africa, and given the delay in readings I would estimate it now passing Sierra Leone (never been there myself) on its way to Durban for the next stop. I remember flying from London to Cape Town and realising how big the continent of Africa really is. From Santandar Spain to Durban South Africa is 15 days by ship. The Bangkok has put on the afterburners and is travelling at 17 knots (= 31 kmh or 19 mph).

The ship my Porsche is on arrived near port Kembla March 28 it only docked on Friday and made its way to Brisbane today. However it will not enter the dock until 1 May.
There is heavy congestion at all ports. Hopefully yours is a bit quicker.

TYD MAP is showing car is somewhere near Singapore. Not accurate at all

Thanks for the heads up. It is very helpful as I look to sell my BMW. The importation delays into Australia are ?. Not sure the issue will be making the list of any of our politicians or public servants.

  • Pano roof – we have such good light in Sydney all year round, as well as a warm to hot summer and I’ve never been a big user of a sunroof. The pano roof is an amazing piece of engineering, but I did not like the pre-configured settings or the fact there was no internal cover. Looking at all of the forum photos, I can see I will be in the minority here. Perhaps controversially, I also think the GTS looks better without the pano roof.
Im on the Gold Coast, I was a bit worried about summer here and the pano roof but its been amazing! I get far more heat coming in through the side windows. They have worked some magic with the roof. It really opens up the car interior and makes the back seem far more spacious, definitely add it if its not too late. It will also make resale much easier down the line. Get the sports sound add on too as the Australian models seem to be the only ones in the world that don't come standard with an external noise to warn pedestrians, and the sports sound option is the only way to have something similar and IMHO well better (I like it, people always comment!) Its a very handy safety add on in urban areas, I have no idea why our government hasn't rolled this out as law yet.

Im on the Gold Coast,

Hi mate, yes I have the sports sound, although at time of ordering thought it was internal vehicle sound only. Respect your decision and views on the pano roof, just not for me. How's public EV charging up your way?

Public charging here is ok but definitely not keeping pace with the amount of new EVs on the roads. So many TESLAs on the Gold Coast. If I had to mainly rely on the public charging I wouldn’t have jumped to electric yet.
Sports sound is both internal and external. People will hear it.
Anyway congrats on the car it’s such a fun machine to drive and very hard not to punt it more often than I should ;-)

Although this was on display at my local Porsche centre on Saturday, there is always someone with better and bigger toys lol
