I thought I would share updates on my Taycan journey so far. I continue to really really like this car. Yes it is the best car I have owned. It has some things I'm not a lover of but these are a long way from being deal breakers.

The car
  • The car handles like a Porsche should. It's amazing that a +2000kg car can turn in and hit an apex like it does with ease.
  • I've yet to find the limit where understeer sets in on corner entry and for corner exit its poised and offers plenty confidence to power off the corner early.
  • I've managed to get the back to step out a few times but it's never scary and noting more than a fun kick of the rear end!
Tyres
  • Pirelli P-Zero's on 21-Inch Cross Turismo Design Wheels
    • I've no issues here and cannot compare accurately as it's the first Taycan I have experienced.
    • I will however say that I was always of the opinion I was not going to get big mileage from these tyres (I've had set's on previous cars) and this set is not going to change my opinion!. 12000km in and thread is down to circa. 4mm. I'm expecting Santa Claus may need to be dropping a set by about Christmas!
Interior
  • I'm happy with the minimalist appearance and overall quality is very good. There is however things I'm on the fence about:
    1. My gut feeling is that the interior of the Panamera is more plush/luxurious where the Taycan is more futuristic. Different cars vying perhaps for a different audience.
    2. I spec'd the standard interior and I thing if i HAD MY TIME BACK i would have spec'd the full leather interior instead.
  • The storage is not where i would like it to be and I would like Porsche to consider a more user friendly design to address:
    • The cupholders which are in an awkward location when in use.
    • The centre armrest storage which is too small, awkward to open.
    • A more user friendly phone charger which does not make sense where it is now.
    • Door storage which is also sub optimal. I find myself opening the door while im sitting in the driver seat to properly access the door storage.
  • I'd like a move back to more functional control buttons as against touch screens (the finger prints just wreck my OCD). Hoping the design concepts for the new Cayenne make it over to the next version of the Taycan.
  • Despite its comfort this is not a car for folks with mobility issues or a car for passengers with mobility issues. It's too low even in raised mode and leg room in the rear is not excellent.
PCM
  • It works very well and everything you could want is there.
  • I have had to do manual resets 6-8 times when the PCM became unresponsive. The reset worked every time but i do look forward to future enhancements. that reduce the occurrences of this issue.
Charging Planner
  • It has done exactly as it says on the tin and has not caused any issues for me here in Ireland.
  • Pre-conditioning of the battery works well.
  • I would like a little more flexibility when it suggests Charging stops. Specifically the ability to select/set a nearby preferred alternative. I've noticed, in Ireland that it does not always suggest my preferred option (Ionity) even though I know a facility is nearby.
Charging
  • No issue.
  • Despite Ireland having a high density of 22kW charging facilities i have not regretted by decision to not spec the car with the 22kW Charger.
Consumption
  • Has decreased considerably since May and likely driven by higher ambient temperatures in Ireland
  • Air Con - Always Eco mode
  • Drive mode - Normal 95% of the time
  • Range mode point suggests it will add circa. 5-15KM at best and I never really use
  • I'd suggest driving this car like a Porsche is mean't to be driven and forget the penny pinching unless you have an interest in the tech. that supports greater efficiency.
Consumption data from delivery:

Random insights
  • Would I buy another Taycan - 1000% Yes! and currently considering next options and a Turbo is on my radar!
  • What Should I add to my SPEC if I could? - Add Leather interior.
  • What would I like to research more and consider adding?: Addition of Rear wheel steering & PDCC.
  • Have I had any issues? - One where the rear boot mechanism would not open but Porsche Centre Dublin resolved that without any fuss.
  • What concerns me? - Depreciation. It's certainly higher than it has been but part of me feels there is a correction going on right now post pandemic and a stabilisation is on the way.

Thanks for the reassuring 12K update. I have a 4SCT on the way (with full leather int lol) and you've settled my nerves about this purchase. May you continue to enjoy your ownership experience. Can't wait to be a part of it.

Great review. I’m at 4700km and roughly 3 months into ownership. Taycan CT4 here. Very similar thoughts.

- pcm manual reset counter: 1 time

- pcm completely stuck on boot and had to leave the car and come back later for it to reset: 1 time also

- other pcm issues: on some occasion iPhone into CarPlay takes several minutes to get detected / paired: 3-4 times so far

- handling: best EV ever owned and I’ve owned more than one so to speak

- brakes: saved my life twice already (standard brakes here), extremely good. One time was undercut by a Merc Benz taxi out of the blue (merging perpendicular into my lane), another time a car breaking hard in front of me. The Taycan stops like a champ, 20” off-road CT rims here, I believe 285 in the rear.

- range: more than enough, sweet spot ia to drive fast and charge fast at IONITY. did a 2K km trip, car charges faster than I can have lunch + bio break hehe

- economy: worse kWh than on my M3P and BMW i4 M50 at lower speeds, but not by much. At high speeds (130-140kmh++) it all equals out around 25kwh /100km

- build quality: rock solid, interior exterior all materials so far so good
