Things I hate about my Taycan

Whilst I absolutely love owning my Taycan and cannot think of an EV I would prefer, there are some absolutely shockingly bad annoyances, some of which I believe are still present in facelift.

Charging
- The app and in-car interface is the worst I have seen in any brand. This problem has been solved many times over in super simple ways eg Tesla, Kia etc yet the Porsche software engineers decided to invent an obscure enigma interface that often lets me down.
- Poor tolerance to imperfections, often if something happens to power supply or charger the car refuses to recover and resume charging, whereas my wife’s Tesla just tries again periodically and resumes if supply is good.
- I have had one charging door failure already (replaced under warranty) but it seems like something that will probably fail again and there are 2 on the car.

Interior
- The phone charger - worst in any car I have owned or used, what were the designers thinking?
- The passenger screen is super underpowered, often becomes unresponsive and is pretty useless except for allowing passengers to change songs in a poor interface ( no CarPlay on passenger screen)
- Arm rest is designed for contortionists.
- Back seat design seems to make very little use of the very wide frame of the car.
- PCM is awkward, changing a radio station when using car play and switching between two is a daily PITA.

Exterior
- Cameras are positioned poorly and the view from them is what I imagine a fish with a swollen eye sees.
- The washer for reverse camera in mine washes some random part of the car (needs fixing but I see a lot of people with same problem)

Other
- OTA updates seem to be a fabled feature at least compared to brands like Tesla where the updates are frequent and useful

Despite all these genuine annoyances I do love the car, it drives like nothing else I have tried and it looks amazing.

Anyone else agree/disagree with these?

All fair points but I would add v poor telephone reception esp. with insulated glass option. Also dont like the on off switch that has to be pressed for a while to work. It can make you think you have turned the car off but you haven't (though there are other visual cues). At least two accidents caused by this...

I don't use my phone much but am unaware of it ever having particular connection problems.
I have the laminated insulated glass and use the inbuilt hands free function and usually have the phone in a cup holder or the tray under the lower display.

Phone works fine for me and the sound insulated glass option highlights reception could be impaired.

Power on / off is a deliberate and necessary ""yes I'm sure" function.

You can't switch your phone off without holding power off.

Locking the car will power the car off in any event.

Auto (PDLS) mode is set when the indicator is green with an "A" in the middle of it.

Suspect you have been in manual mode hence the flashing!

Nope. Blue light with an A can be on partial auto PDLS high beam (high at the sides of the road) while the car in front (or oncoming) is blanked.

Blue light with no A is full high beam.

Well, I agree. The car is absolutely stunning to look at and fabulously engineered in the mechanical sense, in other words, a freaking blast to drive. There are things in the digital realm of the car that are ridiculously bad. When you consider the money we pay for these things they really ought to work a lot better. I have repeated failures of forward, and side cameras, The auto lift function rarely works properly mainly because it’s designed so that it saves the location when you press save, not when you press the lift! That’s pretty stupid. I’ve had the operating system- the center screen - fail to boot several times for more than 45 minutes. The front and rear cameras are ridiculous in their side distortion. It’s possible to show 180° with far less distortion on the edges. There’s a second view mode in the cameras when you press the icon, but that is not so wide and then you lose the path prediction guidelines. Again, stupid. The 360 view is great, as is the side view function. I’ve had the sound system fail twice and then suddenly be just fine. She I get in the car, the comfort access/auto-on feature works about 2/3 of the time, Often the door handle will lock just as I’m trying to open it, I’ve had my system deliver a message that my instrument cluster has failed and to seek service immediately. This has happened several times. It’s always fine when I turn the car back on. I’ve had the message saying that assistance systems are nonfunctional. All the sensor surfaces were clean and the weather was good, but for some reason, no safety systems. When I got the car back from having the brake hose recall handled two days later I had a message saying my brake fluid was low and to see Service immediately. It was not and it reset when I turned the car back on a couple days later. Even the notification disappeared. That’s very troubling. I’ve told my dealer about all these things and have had zero satisfaction from them. I’m ready to take it up a level. I started a thread about this also if you’re interested.

No, I'm almost always in "A" mode unless I get flashed.

However, it's good to know that this is my problem and not something that annoys anyone else. (Certainly for the color blind it would be a problem, but I can't make that excuse.)

I’ve had my ‘25 4S for six months now. Hard subject. I loved my Ferrari FF, but I couldn’t live with it. I’m not in love with the Taycan, but I can definitely live with it.

Not sure about all the niggles people have brought up here. The car’s been flawless! I’m not critical of the entertainment system but it’s not a focus, besides it’s miles better than my ‘17 Targa 4S. Spotify works just great; when I want to make a call Siri does it for me. Not What more you need?

Compares to the Ferrari which required constant service calls, I haven’t needed one!

My biggest quibble is how Porsche sells these cars with Conti All Season tires — they are not good. After I bought it I reviewed the AS comparisons

The car works overtime to overcome the weight - you can feel it working — frankly it’s pretty miraculous what it can do, but it doesn’t feel athletic. Those tires can’t handle the torque when accelerating hard in right turns at speeds the Targa handled well. I’m going to try summer tires next spring.

i think the regen could be more active; there’s no downshifting, so it feels like you have less control. The car is fine, it just doesn’t feel like you supreme control.

where this car really excels is on trips! holy s, you hit that push to psss button and mash it 85 mph and you just go into hyper speed.. it handles really well But, when you want to relax it’s easy to do. From this perspective the air suspension is amazing. I drive from Boston to NYC to visit my daughter and this thing just soaks up all the bombed out roads. Whether you let it rip or relax along the way, you’re going to arrive fresh as a daisy.

BTW, all my charging concerns vanished quickly. I’m supposed to get about 270 miles, but about 10% less in sport. That about the mileage to NY. I just stop at one of the fast chargers near Greenwich. I go to the bathroom, have a cup of coffee, and boom, I’m at 200 in 20 mins. Never even seen another EV at those stops.

So not the perfect car by any means. Thankfully it doesn’t get the attention the Ferrari did, except from Tesla owners. But it’s a really good car!

You can direct air flow to the floorboard, see below. 4-Zone allows footwells to be warmer.

You know when your high beams are on when the headlight indicator is Blue.

Thank you!!! I had previously tried to get the floor heating going but somehow I'd overlooked the floor directional option. It seems to work good although it wasn't immediately obvious where the heat comes from ... certainly not the vent above the foot well. I've learned a lot from this forum.

If you have a 4 zone, then 3 dots on that screen will take you to additional options.

Never had to open a window, I was mildly concerned since a number of people attributed phone problems to their car having insulated glass on forums but for me never a problem. The A5 through Wales has a few poor spots but not worse than I have experienced with other cars.

I haven't tried the wireless charging.

Are you connected to Carplay when you have these problems?

So reread what i said - green with A denotes PDLS active and will go blue depending on traffic, speed and street lights.

I did. And when on PDLS auto high it will be blue with an A. Not just blue.

That is partially high beam (brights) and in my experience annoys a lot of people particularly in taller vehicles resulting in oncoming cars flashing you despite the car being in adative mode.

That was what the questioner was asking. Not just leaving it manual high beam that annoys people, auto high beam does too because the blanking isn't perfect.

It's truly bizarre. Phone is fine with window open whether on charger or carplay. Close window no reception.

Not sure but probably 2022. Ordered July 2021, completed August 2022 but then kept in storage due to lack of 12V batteries and received on 1 December 2022 by which time quite a few 2023 MY cars had been delivered since they re-started production once 12V battery deliveries were available and seemingly didn't start fitting the stored cars with batteries until production was back under way. August is close to the MY changeover I believe.

I only use my phone to take calls when out and somebody who uses it more than I may well get problems I don't.

I do sometimes have Apple maps or Waze displaying on my phone whilst actually using the on board satnav and haven't noticed drop outs apart from the usual GPS ones.

I rarely use Carplay.
