There are three meanings of "precondition" 1) precondition the cabin temperature for the human, 2) warm up the battery on a cold day to provide good power for driving, and 3) warm up the battery a lot to get ready for fast charging. So my question is in regards to the second case. I read here that if a "leave for work" charging timer is set, the car will precondition the battery to be at a good temperature for driving at the set departure time, as well as having the car charged to the set level. I read it will do that whether the car is actually plugged in or not, and use battery power to warm the battery up if not. Is all that correct? If so, it is a new and different reason to use the timer other than to charge up when electricity is cheap, correct?
Also, does tapping the "precondition" icon on the app 20 minutes before you leave for work to precondition the cabin also precondition the battery for driving? I doubt this is long enough time to do so.
