Hi All,
Came back from holiday today to find my front tire totally flat. This is the cause. Any idea what could have caused such a distinctive impression?! Almost looks like it has been drilled?! Fitted a new set of Pirelli P Zeros about a week ago so I'm a bit gutted.
Couple of other questions:
- can a hole in a tire like that be repaired?
- I purchased the Porsche 'alloy wheel insurance' when I bought my GTS 18 months ago. Does anyone know if it covers brand new tires?!
Many thanks, Robbie

Is that the inside shoulder?

I suspect it's just something you've run over and it's twisted out during cornering.

Is your policy specifically wheels, or wheels and tyres?

General rule is that if you can fit your thumb width between the side wall and the hole, then it's repairable. Looks boarderline not doable to me.

That print looks like a roofing nail.

Too close to the edge. Looks like screw damage. Another new tyre i'm afraid.............
I’ve had something like that repaired.

I’d only worry if you are planning to track this but for everyday driving should be ok.

I’ve had 8-9 nail punctures the last 2.5 years from daily city commuting. I would have gone through 8 sets of 21’s from good year if they were not repairable. At 500 dollars a pop there 4000 on tires alone. I thought owning an ev was low maintenance and definitely did not see this tire issue coming.

some shops will refuse to repair it but I found a mom and pop shop that repaired via hot patching. One tire has 3 repairs and still going strong now at 27k km. Our Taycan is 90% in city driving and average speed is 15 km per hour, fyi.

Looks like a good shout.

2.3t car, no way I'm repairing that close to the edge, edges we know get hammer when the car drops.
