Total battery failure May 9th 2023. Taycan 4s July 2022, 6000 miles. Been told earliest I will have it repaired is mid August at the earliest. Apparently Porsche have only 5 technicians in uk who have been trained on this repair. I have seen a few posts in the USA where Porsche have replaced the whole battery and not just a single cell. Put me in a Volvo C40 for the first five weeks, then loaned me a demo Turbo S until the dealership sold it two weeks later. Now have 4s demo on loan I guess until they sell that one too. Anyone familiar with where i might stand in terms of compensation? three to four months to repair a vehicle is pretty excessive so just putting it out there

Total battery failure in less than 1 year. That is worrying news...
Did you get any more information about what is actually wrong ?
I find it hard to believe that all modules are damaged at once.

Sorry should have added more detail. It was just one cell but somewhat irrelevant as without it being replaced or repaired the car is not driveable. My understanding is that up until recently Porsche (Germany) were faced with having to replace the whole battery unit as technicians had not been trained in this type of failure. The dealership being the retailor are the default point of contact in terms of trying to resolve this problem however, I feel pretty let down by Porsche GB who are responsible for the brand and any reputational impact, given they have yet to acknowledge this more than an isolated case.

Mine has a similar problem I believe.......................Collected Feb and was really enjoying my CT until battery failure 4 weeks ago. (Nottingham UK) Apparently I am told my Porsche dealer now has 3 Taycan's with the same problem but I am still waiting on a Porsche technician to come to Nottingham to assess.........I have no timescale and Porsche are not the best at communication and do not appear to have any urgency regarding this or any other issues

Very frustrating for sure. Porsche GB currently have a very casual approach to this problem which at the minute is not causing them any brand anxiety, if this becomes a recall issue then they might regret not taking a more proactive stance earlier.

@Encompass1 sorry to hear that - hopefully the repair process happens sooner rather than later, otherwise you have an expensive paperweight.

Do you think it’s part failure from a manufacturing defect, or caused by something else, e.g. prominently using DC fast charging?

If this happens outside of the car warranty, does the 8 year battery warranty cover the fix?

I have only ever charged it from home, but it would have been rapidly charged at the dealership when it went in for software update in late 2022. The breakdown happened when I was charging at home on 7KW so hard to conclude that this caused the battery failure. I would be guessing if i said it was a production fault but your question about the battery warrantee is a very good one. My understanding is the battery comes with an eight year warrantee, but my question to Porsche is, given the severity of this breakdown, does this reset from the point of failure or fall within the remaining timeline from the date of handover.

I have been charging mine at a DC charger 99% percent of the time (MY22 collected on 3/30/22) until this month when the DC chargers have become so slow that it's no longer practical to charge there. Mine has 15k miles on the odometer now with no issues...yet. Knock on wood :)

Thanks both. Manufacturing defect sounds probable. I asked because I mainly charge using AC at 7kW.

Sounds like Porsche might at least be doing the honourable thing !!! good luck and would be interested to know who took up your case for compensation, the Dealership or Porsche GB ?

Mine broke down in April (sorry typo previously) and it still isn't fixed. They are targeting to have it fixed by the end of July.

Don't expect any compensation unless you start complaining or bothering them with the fact that you expect some kind of compensation.

If they fixed it, could you ask them how much it would cost to replace a broken module (not the entire battery) out of warrenty (after 8 years) ?
I am curious to know. It would affect my descision to keep the car longer than 8 years.
