There has been some discussions recently around the Burmester stereo option and I thought it might be helpful for potential buyers to see the various sound processor options available.

I mostly use the Pure option as I value trying to re-create the original sound as much as possible. The other option I sometimes use depending on the recording is Live – which makes the sound feel like its coming in front of you more – as it would in a live performance.

The smooth option sounds muffled to my ears and the Auro 3D option really just adds reverb – with an adjustable intensity. Sometimes it works really well – including for classical or organ music – but its horrible for any vocals – especially podcasts!

The truth of the Burmester system is that the ONLY setting to use is Pure. Any other mode loses the reason why you buy the system - The clarity, imagery, height and depth of the soundstage that sits above the dashboard. The 3 tweeters, 1 centre speaker, 2 full range speakers and 2 woofers all serve the dashboard surface. This is what differentiates it from the BOSE system where the soundstage is formed at knee level. That and the precise top and bottom end, whereas the BOSE has an overemphasised harsh top and and woolly bass.

I have spent hours playing with the options. After a year of living with it, all my settings are back to the defaults. Flat EQ as boosting anything destroys the system's accuracy. Default positioning as moving it back takes the sound away from the dashboard.

This is the best sound system I have heard in any car. Somebody spent many months finding the ultimate settings and these are the defaults. I cannot improve upon them.

Aura 3D sounds good, would be good to hear it with some better music and vocals

Burmester has a Soundcheck smartphone app that I downloaded in 2019. Two years later and they still haven't added the Taycan as a supported Porsche model. Perhaps the functionality of the smartphone app is encompassed by the functionality of the controls built into the PCM.

Absolutely this, without a shadow of a doubt. I’ve jigged around endlessly with it but anything other than Pure with no alterations always feels just a bit off.
