Have you tried Apple Music directly from the head unit (not through your phone). I believe all Apple Music subscription include lossless audio. I found it to sound better than wireless CarPlay.
Wired CarPlay is the only way to get lossless audio from Apple Music. You are correct that wireless CarPlay uses a lossy codec.

Some additional info here: https://www.taycanforum.com/forum/t...findings-and-reviews-thread.11991/post-178473

However, using the built-in Apple Music PCM player – it is unclear if that now streams the lossless codec.

The external Apple Music API definitely does not yet support lossless playback which gives us a strong hint that the built-in player doesn't either – unless Porsche has got private API access from Apple. Porsche and Apple do tend to announce when they do things together – and I feel if the PCM player was "upgraded" to support lossless playback – we'd have seen an article in Porsche Newsroom about it.

The announcements, if there are any, will be tomorrow at Apple's WWDC wherein they will rollout CarPlay2. The integration into Porsche PCM should be much more functional. We shall see.

I hate wireless CarPlay and will only use wired. Unfortunately, to do so I have had to set up some automations in my phone that disable Wi-Fi when driving mode activates. Even if I tell my phone to not automatically connect to Taycan Wi-Fi networks, they magically switch back to auto-connect after a while. I also have an automation set up to enable Wi-Fi when I get home. At least there’s a convoluted workaround to wireless CarPlay.

I would like to ask the forum member who have optioned BM system with some help getting full specs and what audio formats and quality it can play as I cannot find it anywhere. For example, I bought 320kbs album of Daft Punk to play Beyond track digitally from USB drive to check it out [when I get it back from PPF shop tomorrow), but is this the highest possible example, or someone can point me to something that would be considered the highest possible audio example to try it out on the system. I only had Bose before.

Get your album in FLAC format. That should play from USB and is a lossless format. Higher but rate and sample rate better (although debatable if actually audibly any better).

Hi @SergeyIndy. I just took delivery of my new GTS yesterday with Burmester. I’ve come from a BMW with Bowers & Wilkins Diamond system. My music library is ripped MP3 in 320kbs on a USB. Plugged it in and it worked perfectly. All of the art work, track lists etc is fine, just not recognising my playlists (which the B&W did). So I will try and sort that issue out in the days ahead.

Performance wise the Burmester is fantastic on the 3D setting, which I have it on at the moment. The sound is crystal clear and completely undistorted at high volume. I’ve also spec’d the noise insulating glass and that together with regular Taycan acoustics, makes the car a wondrous place to listen to music. There are no equalizer controls which is a bit disappointing. I’ve not had time to do a lot more testing on the other sound settings.

IMHO, Burmester, while better than the Bose, is not on par with the high end offerings of BMW or Audi.
Indeed. A friend had a G12 7 series with B&W and Panamera with Burmester and after some tests with different types of music the B&W sounds better to me. There's less rattles and highs are smoother.

Bose is clearly below and its very obvious at higher volume when upper mid-range distort before the rest of the system. The amp channel is boosted near its clipping level to compensate a void in frequency response.

Given the auto designer’s paranoia about weight and power consumption in today’s EVs, it will be a while before we have a great car audio experience in one of these vehicles….I am hopeful for a big step up in 2nd gen Porsche EVs though.

….FLAC files via USB.
That’s definitely the best quality you’re going to get. I used to use Tidal but switched to Qobuz years ago. Qobuz is hands down the best service for pure quality. You can also purchase DRM free from their online store - all the way up to 24bit/192kHz.

Do you have the ability to setup an ARC with a tone & frequency sweep? When I had my M5 with B&W, someone from the forum did just that and posted their results and settings. Made a big difference in sound. Once I get my Taycan this is exactly what I’m gonna do.

Good luck getting your system dialed in!

Thanks everybody for all the replies.

I gave it some time to carefully listen / adapt to the system and I must admit; I do appreciate it more and more. Today I listened to the remastered version of 'Almost Hear You Sigh' from 'The Rolling Stones' and was really impressed.

My settings are now:
- Tone: Pure
- Bass/treble: all zero
- Fader/position: slightly to the rear
- Enhancers: only to optimize low quality files, disabled the driving noise compensation

My GTS is a couple of weeks away, looks to be identical colour/wheels and I have selected Burmester too. Will monitor this thread and will report when I have a car.
I'm curious what your experiences are this far.

Guys, to be honest. If you are using Sonos at home and your ear is not trained for music you don’t hear a difference.
But Burmester is great and yes to have the full potential of the system it makes sense to additional dampen the doors. I did it and it’s awesome now
Could you explain a bit more about the dampening done?

How did you dampen the doors to reduce the rattles? Also, if I’m outside of the car, the subwoofer in the rear causes a lot of rattling from underneath the car when I have volume turned up and the base kicks. Did you have similar rattles and were you able to do anything to dampen those?

I'm curious what your experiences are this far.

As it so happened I took delivery of my car, had it for 8 hours, then had to leave on a business trip which I could not move. I’m planning posts on a number of items when I’ve had a bit more time with the car. So will let you know.

To my 8 hour experience. Well after nearly 16 months of waiting, and a series of Porsche and non-Porsche delays, I didn’t enter the dealership with butterflies in my stomach. More a sense of relief. Once the car was unveiled the Adrenalin started pumping and I was relieved/excited that the look and spec of the car turned out exactly as I had hoped. It’s a little tougher in Australia at ordering time for a new model, as there were no GTS’s and no Taycan’s in the colour or spec for me to physically see at the time of order. I was relying on the configurator.

Once I got behind the wheel and drove away with the car, then the feelings I had experienced with the test drive in early 2022 returned. It is simply next generation in design, feel, experience and performance. That’s why I ordered one pretty well straight after my 6 minute test drive of the base Taycan. I can’t wait to return home in a week and have a day set aside for a long drive.

Quite!

There has been loads of strong opinion on audibility of different formats in the hifi world and the lossy ones are certainly programme dependant but I haven't seen a proper controlled listening comparison where a track with 320bps data compression is discernible from a lossless 16/44.

I myself have done controlled tests between 16/44, 24/96 and 24/192 files and as long as the master is the same - it often isn't for the reason of re-selling the same music at a higher price - and the loudness is matched to 0.1dB I can't hear the difference in a high end dedicated listening room with a 28dB background noise level, never mind any car!
