Unless I am missing something, there is no info (e.g version number) that would verify that the update is (or is not) done..so I cannot check whether an OTA was successful. (unless, again, I am missing something)
In theory, if it’s avaliable and it wasn’t done, it should stay in your updates until you do it, as it downloads it whenever it has signal and then it stays downloaded until installed.

So if at any point you saw it, and now you don’t, it’s installed

So even if you do not do the procedures the update gives you in the car (Press the On button for one second, with driver door closed, etc), the update will self install?

Following the OTA update instructions on PCM appeared to work for me.
But there was no message of successful completion, or otherwise.
My car later shifted from OTA battery monitoring to offline monitoring. That may be ‘unconnected’.
It’s like Porsche didn’t follow the last 50 years of software installation good practice.
Soul electrified my arse.

I followed the OTA instructions, but also did not receive any confirmation. I left the car while it was going as per instructions, when I came back, never got the OTA message again. It's a poor user experience design, but on par with Porsche software design.

I got a message that the Update was complete when I got back in my car. Was a small box like the Homelink.

I was expecting at least that, so looked for it, never got it. Does it mean my update failed? Did I leave the car locked for too long and PCM software “forgot” about the update complete message? Did the update succeed but the message display fail? I, as an end user, can never know. Such is Porsche software user experience.
