Do you mean the G Techniq Surface Protection?
Maybe. I spoke to the dealer when he tried to sell it to me as an add-on. I asked him what it was and he started telling and gave me a brochure. I took a skim read and asked him if it was just wax, he countered with the name of the product and what it was made of and I said “so just wax then?” At which point he kinda said “well yes” and comped it on the order.

I was going to take this option for the convenience of getting it done before collection… I had better do a little more homework

Fair enough. I did ask if it was ceramic when he first mentioned it but it wasn’t. For me they should bloody wax it for free, carnauba-based or not. I told him I’ve literally got better wax at home, to which he gave a wry smile ;)

Still undecided on PPF vs Ceramic vs Nothing….
For me it’s Ceramic only, there’s a load of different theories on PPF out there however a few people I know who had it done pretty much agree with what’s said in this video:

Yes PPF can be fantastic, but if your not prepared to pay for replacement sections to be re-done whenever an issue occurs my opinion is your better off just getting a body shop to touch up the paint.

Also for me at least, I haven’t specced my car for the next buyer (skipped on the sunroof as I don’t like it)…and will also not stress over having the paintwork in pristine condition for the next buyer either.

Having said all that, just like optional extras it’s a personal decision so go with what your heart tells you.

My advice would be to take your car to a professional detailer if you want a ceramic coat, or any other sort of protection. I can’t imagine a dealer will prep or execute to the same level of detail, despite what they say. Save your money or get it gone properly.

To be honest I expected the delay given everything that has been posted on here recently. My SA also believes the dates could move again so it’s a game of wait and see and I’ll wait for the next update.

That said, getting a VIN will be a nice milestone but I won’t be putting money down on a date lol.
My dates have shifted again. Car wasn’t produced on 1st November (as I was told a few weeks ago) and is now expected to complete on 2 December and due to dealer by 16th December.

So currently the slipage is 6 weeks. It was 5 weeks before.

Still no certainty it will have its standard Bose fitted. At least it should have a 12V battery, which will be a nice touch ?

I think mine will arrive after the New Year. It would be a very nice surprise if it turned up next month but that does appear to be getting less and less likely.

On a brighter note, my new bike has arrived and it took just over a year from ordering so the Taycan is currently beating it………on paper anyway. ??

Road bike? Sounds like an SL7 with a 1 year lead time ?
Maybe in another year you'll have a bike carrier to put it on...

Maybe false hope but the entreaty to book a service for updates has disappeared from the My Porsche app which gives me hope it has had a 12V battery fitted and updated ready to be on its way to the dealer like others here :)
Oh-oh the entreaty is still on the My-Porsche web page so maybe I got my hopes up too soon.

Some of the ends could have been done better by the fitter. But the point of this video is a bit of an odd one. The actual paint is being protected. Kind of the entire point of the PPF. When you get ugly rock chips, you need that bit re-done. His point on touch up paint isn't amazing either, as touch-up paint never quite looks right. "If it happens to paint you have to re-paint the car. If it happens to film you re-wrap the hood." That_is_the_point ;)

Anyway, it's a personal choice imo. Ceramic can be a good halfway house, but it does not stop a larger rock-chip or larger scratch. It is great with smaller hairline scratches and usually polishes those out.

Good PPF is also "self-healing", a lot of would-be smaller rock chips will simply disappear over time, or with a little heat (from a hairdryer, for example).
Much less maintenance than trying to fix a pebble dashed front bumper.etc!

I got a ‘final steps before delivery’ email today. What’s the usual timescale from email to ready for collection? My OPC tells me they think it will be December, but no more information than that.

I got my final steps before delivery note on 16th August. I still have no further news except expected at the dealer on 25th November.
OTOH the dealer told me it was usually 2 to 3 weeks and asked if I wanted to delay delivery until 1st September to get the new registration. Seems like a sick joke now!
