I was planning to use a 12V refrigerator/freezer which uses 45watts in my trunk on long trips. Since the main battery will keep the 12v lithium battery charged as long as the SOC is above 50% does that mean I can leave it plugged in and cooling when the car is off and possibly over night as long as the main battery stays above 50% as it keeps getting demand to charge the 12V lithium battery as my refrigerator/freezer constantly draws down the 12V battery?
Has anyone used the cigarette outlets for anything like this?

FYI, The cigarette lighter in the trunk turns off after 30 minutes. I use a battery pack that is hooked up to the cig port and plug the fridge into the battery pack. Gives me the reserve I need and I top off my battery pack while driving.

I have no experience of thus but suspect it won't work as you'd hope. 12v is topped up when the car is powered on and in use only is my understanding.

Car will power off if left idle after 30 mins.

Don't risk flattening your 12v!

Thanks! I had no idea it shuts off after 30 minutes but I can understand why since it would be terrible if you forgot to unplug something and have it kill the 12v lithium battery. So I assume it will only run for 30 minutes after you start the vehicle and then restarts again once you turn the car off and then back on again.
is this true for the outlet in the center console?

Now that you mention it I have been in the car parked doing emails when the car simply shuts off so I’m assuming the 12V outlets will stay live as long as I’m driving it which is all I need on a long trip since I would take the mini-fridge/freezer into the hotel with me or at least the contents.
It makes perfect sense to have everything electrical in the car shut off after 30 minutes to protect the 12V battery. I had the impression earlier that the outlets would shut off after 30 minutes while driving which wouldn’t make sense since I’ve used the cigarette lighter in my center console for a small 110V inverter to keep my laptop charged and it never turned off accept when I turned the car off and locked the car.
I’d bet the 4 USB-C ports also shut off as soon as you turn the car off & lock it.

As long as you're moving your outlets will draw power and keep your fridge chilling and champagne chilled.

Only 2 of the USB-C ports (rear) are powered from what I remember.

Just plan on no power when the car is powered off.

That’s what I expect. It’s actually just like any modern ICE vehicle in the last few years. They all switch off all accessories after a specified amount of time.
My H2. Hummer turns everything off after 15 minutes so it won’t kill my battery. The aftermarket alarm system on the other hand will kill my battery in a week so I keep it on a trickle charger in the garage and use a solar panel on the roof when I’m outside to insure my starting battery & backup battery don’t get drained.

Hello,

I tried this with my 2021 Taycan, and I can tell you that there's no timer to cut off the power after a certain period of time, neither on the cigarette lighter nor on the four USB ports. The result: if you forget to turn off your electronic device (dash cam, radar, whatever), the battery could be seriously damaged. It's a real shame :(

thank you

The USB ports definitely turn off after thirty minutes of turning car off on mine.
12 Volt battery is charged though up to 8 thirty minutes sessions even when car is off.

Sorry, totally off-topic, but what’s the hummer like? We don’t get them here!

My 2003 H2 is one of my favorite vehicles. It great for towing and you can pack so much stuff in it and on it when we go skiing in Utah. It is a gas guzzler at 13-15mpg (highway) but when we drive to Deer Valley every year to go skiing it doesn’t matter what the weather is, if the roads are clear or not. It goes anywhere. In fact when the parking lots are full as the ski area I just drive up on top of the snow piles left by the snow plows where nobody else or very few would even try to park.
Driving an H2 is like driving your living room sitting on your big comfortable sofa in front of a large picture window.
In other words it’s a “sports living room” vehicle not a sports car or truck.
I’ll never sell it. It’s perfect for its purpose in winter or towing in summer.
It’s 22 years old and I still haven’t hit 90K miles…
My Taycan will always be for around town local use with it’s 200 mile range so I will be in the market for an ICE sports sedan or possibly the new Boxster/Cayman but it will be ICE or hybrid unless it has at least a 450-500 mile range for long trips so I have at least the same range as my H2.
Who knows what will happen with EV batteries in the next few years….

Nahhh! I wanted yellow but my wife outvoted me so we got a burgundy one.
Evidently I learned early on in our relationship when it comes to technical things like car repairs, home maintenance and sometimes restaurant selection I am allowed to choose when there is a tie but anything to do with style, color, furnishings and home appliances she gets the deciding vote in a tie.
I got the H2 and she got the color which was acceptable to go with our garage.
….but I really did want the yellow one. She did get me the die cast metal one in yellow which is 9 inches long…

This is really strange. Is this the same for all other Taycan owners? Is this documented? Is this country-specific (I'm based in France)? Or is it a configurable setting?
Thank you

I think my 2021 shuts everything down after 30 minutes when I’m sitting in the car doing emails or on a call. My phone stops charging after 30 minutes when the car shuts down. I will confirm this again and see if all the USB C ports are dead as well.
I also can’t get my charging timers to work now. I set the preferred charging times to be from 9PM to 4PM but it doesn’t matter the charging does not turn off anymore.
