Hi you lovely forum bunch.

So my question is one I ask feeling very sad indeed - My car has locked and of course Porsche have taken 5K deposit but no 'top up' deposit. The car is due to go into build late march. What happens if you cancel after lock/ at this stage ?

A bit of negative but truthful context which is driving this debate at home-

We have had a bit of a rubbish few months in our local area. We live in a lovely street in Sussex. I always thought it was boring and super safe but we have had a stint of break ins and car thefts in the area. :crying: We have been seriously debating at home if we want to 'attract' attention with an expensive car. It seems like theres a spate of it out of nowhere at the moment. I realise this might change and may just be shocking luck in a short space of time. Unfortunately, we do not have the option of garaging the car as our garage isn't big enough.

I do not want to cancel the order because I love the car. But this stint out of nowhere is making me feel nervous. Appreciate any experience in cancelling/ deposits etc.

I completely accept I will probably lose 5K but wondering if I lose anything else. I will be calling Porsche tomorrow to see the lay of the land but wanted to put it to forum friends first. Why are there such crappy people out there ? So crazy Im having to worry about this 'just in case.' Thanks in advance and sorry for being a buzz kill:headbang:

My understanding, from a casual conversation a while back with a friend who is dealer principal at another high-end brand is that you should get it back - assuming they can sell the car. i.e. they don't get to keep your money and sell the car for full price.

Hopefully you're locked spec isn't too left field making it harder for them to flip the allocation.

Final thought - don't let some scumbags spoil your plans. If it's one bunch of ne'er-do-wells then hopefully they'll switch to a different area when (ok, if) the Bobbies become more proactive.

These sh1ts either get caught, or more likely move to another area. We had a spate of burglaries last month spread over a few days and then back to normal. We have CCTV and a dog that will sense anything bigger than an ant approaching our house which helps ?

You stand a very good chance of getting your money back.

Taycans are in demand and providing you haven't gone off piste with your build your dealer will be able to sell and therefore return your deposit in full.

Vehicles are usually stolen when there’s an order from someone. Let’s say some junk13s got ahold of a Red Corolla Title, so they need a red Corolla to swap/paint/weld that respective VIN. Highly unlikely someone will steal your Taycan unless they find something valuable inside because that vehicle is of no use to anybody but the owner lol. Just get good insurance and enjoy the ride.

That's like my mom's '93 Honda Accord SE. It was only made for a couple model years.. In around 2002 she had it parked in a garage in NYC at her apartment building. There were a LOT of porsches, MB's, even a Bentley or two in that garage. Her spot was about 4 levels down, all the fancy cars were up on the top level. We'd have to call ahead 20 minutes to go out so we'd wait for them to move cars around to dig hers out. Well, one day we're chilling on the 40th floor and the police call to say her car was located and it was completely stripped. We didn't even know it was stolen!

So basically, the garage under the building had 3 cars stolen a few nights before, at gunpoint, and somehow my mom's Accord SE was one of them, buried on the 4th level, behind other cars. They bypassed all those fancy cars up out front. They obviously knew what they were looking for, and it was whispered to be an inside job.

And darling OP... My other story is my Aunt and Uncle literally had every car stolen from their driveway that they bought. And then they figured out how to block the more expensive one in the driveway with the cheap undesirable one on the street. Every night they'd move the cars around. Worked like a charm until my Uncle got home so beat from work he passed out before getting back to move the cars and yep, his SUV was gone the next morning.

Basically, if someone wants the car, they'll find a way to nick it regardless. I've been lucky throughout my adult life, but growing up, we got new cars when the old one got stolen. Once was on my birthday too! I say get the car of your dreams and do whatever is reasonable to keep it safe and insured, but don't let thieves steal your happiness and good fortune too. ?

With the arrival of my GTS imminent, maybe, hopefully, does anyone really know... I have in recent months been preparing and beefing up security, ready for its arrival
A garage was not really viable so went for an enclosed carport.
New driveway gates. Fully infilled and intentionally manually operated so they are key lockable with extra long drop bolts.
We already have extensive CCTV but have added an EZVIZ floodlight security camera (link below) and so far I am pretty impressed.
Had been casually researching an external alarm system for some time and the EZVIZ seems to provide a great solution.
It works as you might expect... If the PIR is triggered by an intruder the bright floodlight activates at the same time as a loud beep, which surely would get them thinking. A notification is sent to your phone, with footage of the incident. It has two-way audio should you wish to shout profanities at the knobheads and you can trigger an external alarm to wake the neighbours.
Very easy installation and setup. Hard-wired and can simply replace an existing external light.
Obviously, the unit needs a WiFi connection for notifications and updates. Notifications are prompt and reliably arrive to your phone within 5 seconds.
There is a cloud storage option for recordings (quite expensive) + an internal memory card slot.
Also works with Google and Alexa

For the best user experience, I'd recommend the installation to be directly focused on a target that you wish to protect (car for example) and avoid trying to protect a broad area. Maximum of a 5m radius.
The so-called "smart" PIR floodlight feature is not as good as a dedicated PIR floodlight nor is the camera a replacement for dedicated CCTV but as an all-around motion activated, notification alarm it's very competent.

Sorry that your Taycan experience is already being compromised by scumbags. I doubt a Taycan is of much interest to a career car thief (and would be too much trouble for anyone else). Vandalism would be a worry if you were within walking distance of antisocial types, but I doubt that's the case. Which leaves the concern that your Taycan might attract burglars to your property- maximum visible security measures might be enough to put them off and reassure you (and sadly are worthwhile regardless of what cars you have).

If you read the OP it isn’t theft of the car causing concern but attracting burglars to the house by having an expensive car in the driveway…

For such neighborhoods, maybe Porsche should redesign the rooftop tent into a rooftop doghouse, with room for two Rottweilers to spend the nights.
