So, I took my Taycan in for the two year service, to address a few recall compaigns, and to have both of my rear summer tires replaced for a cut on one (under a road Hazzard warranty). They are also swapping out my summers for winters at the same time. I had no issues with the car apart from that cut on the summer tire, but glad to get everything addressed.

The nice service tech, Sergey, has offered to deliver the car to me so that I don’t have to cross any bridges (local joke about how DC residents never want to go to suburbs).

Now, I would never agree to that for my 911 with a manual transmission (even though the techs drive them for testing). I mean, I don’t want any hidden type II overrevs or clutch/transmission abuse that come back to haunt later.

But I’m seriously tempted to let him bring the Taycan as there is not much to break (yeah, I know there could be a wreck but that could always happen and it would be their insurance). It would be super convenient. What could they really abuse that wouldn’t be apparent, even if driving hard?

What would you do?

DO NOT let the dealer drive your car back to you until you have verified they are responsible. I figured it was a great service until the kid they gave my Panamera GTS to crashed it (not his fault). Then I learned that it was completely my responsibility. I could not believe they provided this 'service' without any notification that it was my responsibility once the car left the dealer's lot. Read the fine print on your service agreement.

I’d hate for them to bottom out the car and damage a battery shell/cover, so I’d never let anyone drive my car.

I've let dealers (Silver Spring and Tysons) pick up and return my Taycan with no issues/concerns. Anything can happen to anyone, anywhere. Life is too short to be worrying about this.

BTW - Appera you live in Hillandale (or took the photo there). I lived there for 5 years - Ivy Terrace

I'll not confirm nor deny due to privacy reasons (the pictures were taken at a place that is not in front of my house), but thanks for the response! This happens to be Porsche of Arlington. I used to use Tysons with previous personnel, but I like Porsche of Arlington more now.

You uniquely understand the aversion to crossing the bridge, hahah.

My $0.02 - The tech driving my car wouldn't be my concern. I like to review the work done (as possible/appropriate) and the state of the vehicle before I leave the shop. Yes, you could tell the driver to take it back and resolve the issues, but the added time and trips on the car may not be worth it depending on what's wrong. While I haven't had any issues with my local Porsche dealer, previous non-Porsche dealers have left screws just sitting in a cup holder (panel was just hanging loose), air filters not secured, and in a few cases didn't actually resolve the issue I'd come in for. Reviewing the vehicle before I leave has saved me return trips multiple times. This is across one Infiniti dealer, one GMC dealer, two Honda dealers, and five Ford dealers (in three states). Needless to say, I have a low opinion of dealership service departments. My Porsche dealer has been great do far, though I only have two visits under my belt with them.

That said, I also enjoy walking through the showroom (and shop when they let me) to see all the eye candy and the highly engineered innards exposed🤣 Spotted a freshly delivered Dakar on a previous visit. Some super- and hypercars on lifts have made appearances in the past as well. I enjoy an excuse to go to my version of an art museum 😜

Ultimately it's a time vs value calculation that's personal to you. Your time is valuable, what's the best investment?

My answer is no unless it's in an enclosed trailer. I've had other dealers pick up and deliver my car in enclosed trailers and I'm fine with that.

Makes sense, although I try NOT to look around so that I will not be tempted as I am very weak. Me going to a Porsche dealer is like an alcoholic going to a Napa tasting room . . .

Now that's funny, and I agree. I love walking around the dealership looking at all the Porsche-"Porn"

You all would be proud of me: I picked up my car in less than 5 minutes and didn’t even so much as glance at the showroom.

I was in a hurry to get back to office and inadvertently “provoked” two Cayenne GTSs to “race” me  and a maintenance van who had no contact whatsoever with me to flip me off when we reached the next light 😒 I genuinely hate driving on public streets.

Car is good. Summers are on. Just need to reprogram everything (eg home link) because everything got wiped out.
