MY23 or MY24?

Presently, I have an order for MY23 to be delivered in Nov-Dec 2022.

Should I wait for the MY24 facelift? Could there be a major technical advance and I regret not waiting?

Will the advent of the MY24 facelift, just 12 months after I get an MY23, provide a significant devaluation of my MY23? Or will it be marginal? - (affordability on my pension is marginal)

It's my first Porsche, so I am not sure how much being a previous version devalues the previous one

Perhaps being 67 year old - I should just Go4it ASAP - and aim to changeup for the new model in ~2027 (if I survive that long)

Age wise I am about where you will be in 2024. Three weeks before my 4 CT was delivered I overheard the paramedic in the ambulance saying “Oh s**t, no pulse, not breathing.” The last thing I was thinking about was the technical advancements of the MY24. I am very happy with the MY22.

I'd wait until you have a firm build slot before deciding...which might be even closer to Q3 2023 i.e. MY24. I'm assuming that EV residuals won't be as good as ICE vehicle historically...the more technology that's added to cars (not just the drivetrain) the greater the risk that in 3 years there'll be significantly better available for less money. I don't see that trend tailing off, so in my case I may as well jump in and enjoy the car as soon as I can.

Thanks Mr W - that makes sense - Yes I am waiting for firm build slot/order time (feb-March 2022) to make my decision - being Custom Paint I will need to firm it up earlier than for an order with standard paint.

Looking at used Taycan values which are selling at >£5-10k above MSRP right now its better to have a Taycan ASAP from a depreciation stand point clearly. It really is uncertain how long these values will remain so strong. This for me would outweigh the uncertainty regarding reliability of future facelift versions as this will always be a lottery. From what i have seen most Taycan owners have no regrets on their purchase and are relatively happy

That's a happy consequence of the Custom Paint route...I'm anticipating a significantly later build for a non custom paint CT Turbo.
I'm slightly younger than yourself, a close shave a few years ago has woken me up to the possibility that I might not live forever, so I want to enjoy things while I can (well, as soon as Porsche can deliver!).

There seem to be small changes every year. The ‘20 doesn’t have P&C, the ‘21 doesn’t have Android auto, the ‘22 doesn’t have …?

I don’t think there’s even any confirmation that a .2 will for sure be in 2024. I’ve seen speculation that it could be delayed. But who knows.

But even if the .2 does come in ‘24, it may not have something else added in ‘25…

FWIW, I’m in a similar position looking at a 2023 992. Mines even worse because I’m looking for May/June delivery. Just 6 more months and I could maybe have a 2024 instead.

But I don’t know what 2024 will bring. Maybe the .2 will change something I liked and I will have missed out on an important option to me. Not every update is an improvement.

I also have a little bias in that, if I take the 2023, it will be before I’m 40, which is important to me for some reason.

Then when I ordered custom paint it came forward to Q4 2022. OPC has advised it will be Feb-Mar 2022 for earliest slot/build allocation and I will need to confirm 6 months in advance of build slot so that it also Feb-Mar 2022.

As with all things they change with time. I’m 36 and I’m simply not interested in waiting for things if I like them today.

Most of the features and chants will be “minor” such as range or small facelifts. If you like the car and the way it looks today, you will like it in 2025 as well. If you don’t want the car because of how it makes you feel, but rather how it makes other people feel or what you potentially could sell it for, do you really want the car at all?
