Had my 4S CT now for 2 weeks and loving it.

However, can’t seem to get more than 209 mile range on fully charged?

Any tips or advice to maximise charge range?
Tks

1. Wait for the average temp to go above 15C.
2. Turn off Climate control
3. Drive "softly" for a couple days to decrease average consumption.

Are you struggling with range on a day-to-day basis? Or have you experienced range anxiety on longer trips? With all of the EVs I’ve owned so far I have found the best thing you can do to combat range anxiety is to work out a regular charging schedule if you drive the car daily and then plan charging stops carefully for longer trips.

In my experience trying to squeeze every last mile of range out of a car is almost never worth the effort, versus practicing good charging hygiene and trip planning.

That said, if you’re just trying to “game” the predicted range indicator for fun, then back off the AC and the right pedal.

Hi Nick and welcome to the forum. I have a CT4S and am in Yorkshire too... so experiencing the same climate!

When my car was new in the summer I got exactly 209 mile range on my first 100% charge. After a few charges and a couple of long hauls the range started to creep up so yours should improve over time, particularly as we move into spring/summer.

Just to compare, as we're in the same temperature region, my car this morning on an 85% charge and a 2 degree outside temperature shows a 174 mile range... which (if you assume it's an accurate linear progression) would equate to around 222 miles at 100%. More than I expected in February to be honest.

So not a range increasing tip as such... just reassurance that it should increase over time. ?

This is normal range for UK. Will increase slightly as you add more miles.

As mentioned by others you need higher ambient temperature to gain more miles. Expect 250 - 270 come Spring / Summer.

Using AC for heating is a range killer. Use electric heating on seats and steering wheel and set AC to ECO if you can.

With the exception of battery temperature all the driving techniques which give good fuel consumption in a IC engined car tend to be better on an EV, for the same reasons.

209 is about right for this weather. I'm currently getting 200-210 miles over longer journeys (50 miles plus) in real terms (i.e. ignoring the PCM range estimate and going off battery % per miles driven). I have managed to eek out around 230 miles in the cold when I've had to by ensuring I'm below 70mph and no hard accelerations (in the cold slamming your foot down on the accelerator for a few seconds can use up a whole % of the battery). Unbelievably boring though. In the Summer, you should be able to get 250-280 miles so hang-in until then!

I find the eco-air con setting is perfectly adequate (and is selectable even if not in range mode) which saves you a couple of percent. The range shown on the app seems to be based on the normal mode setting - if you flip it to range mode when you get in the car the predicted range will shoot up a bit. I agree it’s a real shame though to buy this amazing car then pootle around doing driving miss daisy pace just to squeeze out a bit more range so if you can find some decent chargers on your main routes that’s got to be a better long term option.

I got mine in December so not yet seen the spring/summer temperature effect but encouraged based on what others say that seems to make such a big difference.

I got 245 miles (SOC 100%) last week immediately after a 350kW charging session (max rate 70kW - it was a Porsche EVSE!!) which cooked the battery to 32C as a result. Within 2 mins of driving the range was down to a more normal 225 due to the chilly ambient temperature.

Do you actually need increased range or do you just want to see a higher range on the GOM when you get in the car? There are things you can do to accomplish both, some have been provided in the comments. But you may not like them.

In this weather (temperatures around -1 to 8 degrees) I've been getting around 200 miles on an 85% charge (with Performance Battery +). But heating up the car from cold takes a good 12 miles out of the battery, so shorter journeys are very inefficient. Obviously if you're driving 200 miles, those 12 miles are less important.

I also don't usually plug in the charger just to warm the car before I set off...

A warm battery will always be more efficient on an EV. After rapid charging your efficiency on the next leg of the journey will increase so Preheat whilst it’s plugged in at home.

Baby it, don't drive hard. Don't drive it like a Porsche. Don't drive it over 65 mph on the highway.
Don't drive it in the winter.

In other words, it's gonna get abysmal range (in winter). And range will slowly decrease as battery degradation occurs.

I know this is a bit controversial but after 7 years long hauling a 60kwh Model S (especially back when the chargers were very few and far between) …. draft….. I drove it one year from Florida to Michigan and back with a battery range of about 170miles

I could increase my wh/mile from about 340 to about 280 with a tight draft behind a semi truck. This has gotten me out of more than a few really tight spots before.

A little rough on the front of the car though…

Lol I can see the 18 wheeler truck driver wondering why the hell there is a little plastic car tight up his rear end for miles
