I don’t think power is relevant to range in that case. What we really care about is energy and while the power is higher for higher speed, the time for distance is proportionally lower so the same energy for distance.Power used is force times speed so in power terms the loss is proportional to speed cubed.
As you stated just before that, the increased drag force is the main culprit.
There’s also a small energy expenditure for the acceleration to a higher speed, but it’s negligible in the context of the whole trip, especially considering it’s partially recup’d on a later deceleration.
