How warm was your battery at the start of the session?
I'm pretty confident it was at about 20 degrees? I'd set the charger as a destination

Ok - that may explain the lower charging rate than expected. Typically you need a much warmer battery say 32C to get more juice flowing.

Odd that you had it as a destination / stopover as this should have pre-conditioned the battery (assuming there was time to do it). When you added it did Nav recognise it as a charging location and provided details on the EVSE etc?

I still need to fully understand this, but I'm pretty sure that when I set a destination charge on the SatNav, range dropped by 30 or so miles...maybe the juice requried to bring up to temperature? I think I'd rather suffer a slower charge than loose range

That would make sense as battery pre-conditioning consumes energy and depending on ambient and driving style could consume a material amount of battery.

I've not tried it as there are no chargers near me (1 Porsche EVSE which has been in place for several months only appeared last week which I don't use given the stupid cost and typically a non EV is in the parking bay) that feature in the charging database or recognised as a charging location. I'd have to travel scores of miles before I'd encounter a 50kW DC EVSE that it would recognise. Nice feature but useless to me.

Nothing in life is for free ?

Nipped in to Ionity Perth today and it charged at 253kw at 30 degrees with steam coming out from the front arches. Splash and dash so I didn’t even have time to get a coffee before i was on my way to my next meeting. I got 18kw in 5 minutes for £5.46. Cant remember how many miles it added tbh but worth every penny.
i’d like one of these spaced aprox every 50 miles on major roads and EV life would be so easy…….

I notice range changes a lot and normally drops when you enter a destination, especially one far away via motorways, I think the car assess the road types, altitude gain/loss, weather etc.

And does so – in my view – pretty accurately.

Anyone know if Porsche Tewkesbury has accessible chargers out of hours? Planning to drop in on a long drive North today.
Porsche Centre Bristol at Cribbs Causeway just off the M5 have chargers that are fully accessible outside of dealership opening hours.

Interesting. The Porsche charging app states there is restricted access. Presumably it must be wrong - which is a nuisance as there is no way of knowing which other ones are also wrong

I've been having a 'discussion' with Porsche smart mobility about the porsche centre chargers. While they appear in the charging app, if they have restricted access, then they have been removed from the car satnav as a charging designation. Therefore, you can't set them as a destination - so you can't pre-condition the battery etc. Consequence for me when I tried using one, was i arrived with a not especially warm battery and got little more than 50kwh charging speed out of it. I did still get to pay the 40p per minute time charge for the privilege of using their 350kw charger. paraphrasing, porsche smart mobility couldn't care less when i queried paying the time charge at such low speeds. Thanks for being a valued porsche customer, now bore off.

Unfortunately it is a bit of a lottery. I guess a quick call to the Centre would confirm.

In time hopefully the information provided is 100% up-to-date.

Just to chime in to confirm my experience as being similar to some above....

Porsche Perth charging slow with a 20 degree battery that was 50% capacity.
- crazy to charge there paying a per minute fee with a cold 50% battery...

Ionity Perth - 13% to 60% in 13 minutes.
- Sat nav set for the destination. Drove in sport. Battery was approx 35 degrees. I think it went 40+
- topped out at 240 kw but only for 5 or 6 mins before dropping down to 150 ish.

Splash and dash works very well.

In summary, fast charge DC when your battery is as low as possible and definitely warm it up.
