Hi folks,

Due to unsolvable technical issues, I was forced to make a change. After quite a bit of thinking and consideration, decided to go to 911 for time being. Here are a few notes from my experience that could be useful.

Overall it was a superb experience all year long, immediate acceleration at any speed, sharp handling and smooth ride. Real world range in summer was around 400km (could be stretched more if driving carefully). Winter was a whole different story - city driving would be closer to 270 or less depending on temperature. Other than range decrease, it was very nice to experience in winter - controlled drift, planted, never got stuck, awd ftw. Heat and sound insulated windows were a great feature, windows almost never got any fog and during summer cabin did not heat up too much (I would consider that a must have option for Taycan). Night vision is feature I will be missing, it’s operations in background added nice safety feeling, and warned me of some animals helping avoid problems. Burmester was not as nice as in Panamera and door panel rattling was very annoying, probably addition of vibro insulation would have helped. 19” wheels were perfect for bumpy roads, adding extra layer of comfort while still providing good handling at speed. 0-100 best time I got was 3.92, 0-200 12.27, 1/4 mile at [email protected] km/h. Ceramic coating made cleaning easier and water repellant treatment for windows made it much easier to keep them clean without need of using wipers especially at speeds of 60+ km/h. PPF was not applied, and if the car was a keeper, I would certainly do that, as in year’s time I managed to pick up quite a big of fine grain damages on the bumper and the hood. Also area around door handles picks up scratches easily as do the charging door.

Will I return to ev? Definitely. However at least until the end of the autumn, the new daily driver will be 911 Carerra 2 Cabrio - it makes one feel at least 10y younger ;) while performance is similar to Taycan 4s, it comes with *much* more involvement and excitement (the sound of turbos, exhaust,
engine and with the roof done is nice). The magic sport response button enables “Taycan” mode in terms of the acceleration.

Also 2022 apparently comes with PCM 6.0 which felt a bit of upgrade compared to the one in 2021 4s (colored icons etc).

Now I need to get the ppf done and the first proper drive is expected on May 21 on the season’s opening event for our local Porsche club.

That’s it. Happy to provide any additional feedback.

Great car and choice. For me the only upgrade from a Taycan is a 911. But I disagree that the base 911 has similar performance with the Taycan 4S. Huge difference to me.
Well. 0-100km/h it would be something 3.9 (Taycan) vs around 4.0 (911 cabrio), so quite similar.

100-200 it would be 8,35 vs around 10,2. So in the range of 100-200 there would more noticable difference (about 1.85s), but for us here max speed is 110 in summer time :) so 140-150 would be max speed not to lose drivers license and in that range 1s difference is not something I would agree to call “huge” :) will get draggy and do some testing when the car is driven in have a definitive answer.

Base 911 is not comparable to a Taycan 4S. It’s significantly slower, noisier, but slower.

I came from a 992C4S to the Taycan 4S. I would characterize the performance as comparable. Taycan being snappier down low, the 992 having more ceiling up in the triple digits.

I have no plans to go back to an ICE 911. I will probably pick up (add) the 718EV Boxster if it can be had with the rumored 800HP AWD option.

I drove every 992 911 but the GTS and only the base and 4S of the Taycans. Only from a S/4S 911 you are getting close to the Taycan 4S. The base model just feels much slower. I would compare it to a base Taycan and never to a 4S.

btw: apologies for steering it to a „what is faster“ discussion. You went from an amazing car to another amazing car. Enjoy it to the fullest and hopefully never have any issues. ??

This. Would be helpful to know what the issues were and whether other owners have experienced similar issues.

I will update when I know. Latest news was that maybe rear engine has something faulty.

I wish that the 911 would be hardtop instead of open top. On the other hand, open top would be nice in spring and fall too. But it's not as pretty.

But it makes the otherwise subtle sound more prominent and exciting :)

In Ireland that is a painful direction to move in tax wise:

Tax on EV: 23% (Sales/VAT) + 7% (Registration Tax) = 30% total tax

Tax on 911: 23% (Sales/VAT) + 37% (Registration Tax) = 60% total tax

Is it similar in Latvia – are high emission[1] vehicles "punished" ?

* These taxes make options really expensive as they are all taxed at those rates. If you can "buy" an option after delivery – for example FOD Innodrive – then it isn't part of the vehicle purchase and only attracts the 23% sales tax – not the registration tax.

1: High emissions is anything over 190 g/CO2 per km

Wow, that’s painful to read let alone to experience :)

Here, we have vat 21% regardless of the emissions. Then there is annual tax based on co2. For Taycan that was 0. For base 911 it will be roughly 200€/year. Insurance was actually cheaper for 911 comparing to Taycan (which was a nice surprise).
