Having had previous insurers not bothered about factory fitted options I was surprised that Admiral wanted them listed. So, amongst other things, my car is listed as having rally lights (this was the closest they could get to the matrix headlights). So it varies from insurer to insurer.
Actually in Admiral's case it varies with the rep you talk too. This has been an ongoing battle for me and it is clear the training is in consistent. Last time I escalated and they confirmed then that factory options weren't required to be listed which is the logical response.

As it happens my renewal is this month so it will be interesting to see what end of the stick they have this year!

It did seem odd so that really doesn’t surprise me

My car is still many months away, but for giggles I plunked the deets into moneysupermarket comparison site. The lower end of the premium range wasn’t too horrific for central London, driveway parking and not too far off why I’ve paid for new cars on the right side of £100K. Mind you there’s always the second and third year surprise bounce.

Admiral cheapest, but not going near their telematics alternative offer with a large barge pole.
Yes… let‘s face it. Who is going to put a black box in a Taycan?!

I’ve insured with admiral for years and never once had to include a list of factory options. Just the correct model variant and value insured. Mind you I’ve never had to (touch wood) make a total loss claim. For a car anyway…?

Agreed Adrian! I had exactly the same. A UK based adviser said the previous person was talking ? and beat the previous year esp as I said I was about to walk away with our policy of 4 cars.

Admiral are horrific and can’t stress how much there to be avoided , daughters car was 3 months old hit by another driver , was insured for 22500 and when they come to payout would only offer 19000 based on what you could buy on gumtree, it’s not how much you tell them it’s worth it’s what they say you can get on auction sites and gumtree they base there final payout figure on

That’s pretty unlucky :(
Correct me if I’m wrong, but aren’t all insurance companies the same in this regard? They’ll look to pay out the lowest possible and claim it’s “current market rate”. We have gap insurance to cover the difference.

Did she not argue the valuation? If it's none fault then generally it's fairly easy to get maximum payout. I've had 2 write offs by third parties. Once by the police hitting me when parked avoiding a car pulling out of a side road. The other head on by a drunk driver. Both times they low balled at first. Done a little homework and got documented proof to forward. Once provided they fully agreed. It was quite a while ago but it wasn't actually the insurance company but a third party providing both the damage report and valuation. Both times they said they use the Glasses guide as reference.

I always take out GAP insurance just to avoid this. Not the shite that the dealers try to sell you but from a reputable insurer such as ALA. It's normally a couple of hundred quid for 2 to 3 years cover.

I've just now gone with Admiral (my current insurers LV wouldn't quote for the Taycan which I collect next week).
In a 50 minute call I walked them through every one of my £10k of cost options, they noted the ones they considered relevant, and the outcome was no noticeable change in premium (from the quote I'd got online via compare the market). So they now understand that their promise to Return To Invoice requires those cost options in addition to the standard spec, and my policy doc lists some under "Modifications".
They summarised most of the options as "Interior changes" or "Exterior Decorative Changes". Park assist + surround and Lane Change Assist got honourable mentions. They were very interested in the 150kW DC on-board booster until I clarified that it doesn't enhance the cars performance ?
I was very impressed with the lady who I dealt with- she was thorough and sought input from her colleagues to be 100% sure they had all the necessary info from me. It took even longer than I'd expected, but it was worth it for my peace of mind.

I saw an advert for one of those things last night. It's a great idea for younger drivers who would be hit with severe premiums otherwise.

Don't fancy one for my Taycan when it turns up though.

FYI, I've only just noticed that Admiral's New Vehicle Replacement clause has the limitation- if a vehicle of the same model and specification is not available from UK stock, the most they will pay is the market value.
...so I'm now shopping for GAP insurance after all :(
(EDIT- I'm not gambling on my assumption that market value will initially exceed the invoiced amount)

Let us know how much you pay for GAP. I was going to research that myself soon. PRG quote £465 for £50k for 3 year cover. It is usually massively cheaper from insurance market.
