Hey everyone!

So I’ll be picking up my Taycan GTS in a couple of weeks, and I specced the 19.2kwh charging option. Problem is, apparently in Canada, the Mobile Charger Connect doesn’t support 80A, it’s limited to 50A according to my dealer. What 80A chargers are you guys using in Canada to achieve 19.2kwh? And what functions will be unavailable in PCM / My Porsche if I don’t use the Mobile Charger Connect?

Thanks for the help!

Seems like a waste of money to spend on an option to me. Can the average home even support an 80A circuit for a dedicated level 2 fast charger?

Most home level 2 wall chargers seem designed to handle 60A at most.

What difference would the average home’s capacity make to an individual making this choice?

Power Wall Charge or ClipperCreek HCS-100 w/100 amp breaker (80 amp charge rate).

those are two solid options.

if your home can't handle the 100 amp breaker + wire (or your wallet) I'd do a 80/60 amp breaker

Porsche Wall charger can be configured for any breaker size
ClipperCreek HCS-80 (80 amp breaker)
ClipperCreek HCS-60 (60 amp breaker)

all of these choices will charge your Taycan faster than the included PMC+/PMCC which is limited to 50 amp breaker (40 amp charge rate) because it's mobile and "plug based"

North American building codes require "hard wired" applicances for breaker larger than 50 amps - it's why the PMC+/PMCC (Porsche Moble… "the word mobile is in it's name") is limited to 50 amp breakers (40 amp charge rate)

you need a hardwired charger.

recommend your electrician install:

1. 60/80/100 amp breaker for your hardwired charger
2. NEMA 14-50/6-50 plug as back up - as long as you don't use both at once you won't overload the main 60/80/100 amp breaker

haveing a plug around is useful incase your hardwired charger needs repairs and having hte plug lets you use a mobile charger as a backup/spare.

good luck.

the only correct answer is "maybe" - many homes can handle a 100 amp breaker/sub-panel for the garage - many homes can't - some homes that can't handle 100 amps can be upgraded. some homes that can't handle a 100 amp breaker can not be upgraded

that's why you need your electrician to come out an survey your home and review local building codes to see what is possible and how much it's going to cost.

I realize the Porsche Wall Charger Connect is a different product, but given the many posts on this forum --as well as on a Porsche TSB see https://www.taycanforum.com/forum/t...ature”-revised-may-13-2022.11575/#post-168914 --about overheating and other issues with Porsche's Mobile Charger Connect and Mobile Charger Plus, I would hesitate before buying any wall charging equipment from Porsche. Porsche is a car company, not an EVSE company.

I don't believe you will lose any PCM/MyPorsche functions by using a non-Porsche EVSE.

I assume you have confirmed that your residence can support 80 amp charging.

While the PMC+/C hasn’t had very good feedback, I think the PWCC has. It’s also very competitively priced compared to other 19.2kW EVSEs (which is also unlike the Mobile versions, which are far overpriced).

It would be my first choice if I were in the market right now.

Thanks for all of these replies! So I didn't realize the Mobile Charger Connect and Wall Charger Connect (https://shop.porsche.com/us/en/porsche-wall-charger-connect/p/$B-HCHH0LAA/) were 2 different things. I can't seem to find the Wall Charger Connect in Canada, and my electricians are advising against importing + installing it since it most likely will not be approved for use in Canada (UL listed vs cUL listed). Any advice on how I should proceed with this? Should I just go with the ClipperCreek in that case?

My home recently got upgraded to 400A, so I'd like to take advantage of the full 80A.

Clipper Creek is a good option if it has the required listing.

I bought a non-Porsche EVSE (40 amp - 50 amp circuit). After it was installed I contacted the manufacturer's tech support by email/chat with a couple questions about firmware update and configuration. Both reps I interacted with were knowledgeable about details of the product and my questions were answered the day I contacted them. Several days later the reps emailed me to see if matters were resolved.

In the last seven months, I have contacted Porsche NA support (1-800-porsche) three times with questions/problems about Taycan apps. In each case, the customer service reps I spoke with were not that familiar with the details, requested me to provide emails with photos - which I did immediately, and said my matters would need to be forwarded to "second level" support - aka Germany - for resolution, in several days. In all three cases, Porsche customer service never contacted me back by phone or email. I figured out that if I wanted status on my cases, I needed to call them back. In one case - app not connecting to the car - it took 11 days from the time I opened the case for me to get the answer that Germany suggested I reset the PCM to factory settings.

When you buy an EVSE, you may not need tech support very often, but when you do, you'd like to get good answers to your questions quickly. I wouldn't expect that from Porsche NA customer service.

Yeah I haven't had the best experience with their tech support in the past, I'll definitely keep that in mind with the decision

I was going through the manual for the Wall Charger Connect, and I noticed that it most likely is approved for Canada, as it supposedly has a "c ETL us" rating on the example identification plate.

Would someone with the Wall Charger Connect be able to share a photo of this identification plate on the charger? I just want 100% confirmation of the "c ETL us" rating, in which case I'll arrange to have it imported into Canada. Thanks!

I just went through this and would have gone with the Porsche Wall Charger Connect (PWCC) at 19.2KW. My house could support 120 amp circuit and I'm rigged to do it. My Taycan doesn't have the option so I have the 60 amp installed with a Wallbox. I'll likely update the car at some point in the future once I get a read on my needs. When I do, I'll update my hardwire from the panel in my garage to the charger and will upgrade to the PWCC.

Thanks to the advice on this forum - I had another breaker on the panel put in and installed a backup 14-50 outlet should ever need the backup (vs my hardwired 50amp - 60amp circuit).

Definitely listen to jhenson29. If your car is setup for it and your house (with electrician survey) says you can setup the circuit/charger then do the PWCC. I know the issue with the mobile connect with overheating but I did research (also on advice of this forum) and PWCC doesn't seem to suffer form the same issues and a folks on here that have it don't have the issue(s) of the mobile connect. Good luck on the setup.

This is an excerpt from the installation manual. Note that under Safety and Compliance it states For Canada CSA 22.2 is that what you are looking for?

I've been using mine to charge my Taycan since the beginning of May with no issues except a certificate error that was fixed with a software update. My electrician installed a 100AMP breaker and ran a line to my garage for the PWCC.
