Hello all!

Last year I decided to sell my model 3 and my family’s model X and go for a bit of an upgrade. So I changed my Model 3 into a Taycan and the family model X into Etron Sportsback. The sales person from Porsche told me that I should charge my car to 85% as per Porsche recommendation. The Audi sales guy and finance manager told me to charge the etron to 100. Tesla never says to charge to 100 unless road trip. I was told that Audi internally doesn’t allow you to use the whole battery anyways so it’s okay to charge to 100. I know Porsche and Audi share the battery technology and each different sales is telling me different things. Should I charge to 100% on a regular basis?

You should charge to around 85% unless you need more immediately for either a road trip or long day of local driving.

The car only lets the user access 90% of the battery capacity, but the remaining 10% is not all at the top end.

My SA for my GTS told me the exact same thing to charge to 100%.

The Porsche documentation is pretty clear about charging to 85%, I would stick to that rather than some SAs comments. SAs, especially in the US, unfortunately have a spotty record in terms of actually knowing the facts.

Follow the written instructions from the manufacturer not some verbal statement from somebody, anybody. If you end up in court the only thing that counts is the written instruction from the manufacturer.

I’ve kept mine at 80% and wish I had the option for 85%.

No. 85 unless you're road tripping.

....who is they and what car do you have? If its a Taycan, you should be able to charge to 85% - set in either the profile and/or your App.

E-Tron. Only allowed to adjust the desired charging level in increments of 10 on the Audi app or the car itself. Unless of course I am missing something.

Neither Porsche or Audi let you access 100% of the total battery capacity. In general, 10% is reserved and so at best you can only ever charge 100% of 90%.

Don't charge either to 100% unless you plan to use that day. 85% should be fine for most daily needs.

Yes, but that doesn’t mean that the battery is at 90% when you charge to 100%.

Some amount of the non-user 10% is at the bottom (seems like around half or so based on some other posts).

Sometimes you have to charge to 100% cuz some lazy Lithium ions are just sitting in the farest corner of their pouch cells doing nothing and will eventually die of boredom if you don't talk to them...

Audi recommends 80% for daily use. The e-tron (yes the fat SUV) and Taycan have pretty similar batteries and tech in general. Same infotainment too for example.

In general you want to be as close to 50% as much as possible. On weekdays I have my Taycan profile set up to stick to 60% because I rarely use more than 20%-30%. On weekends I charge to 90% because I nearly always head out on long drives.

My e-tron last year was permanently on 80% unless I went roadtripping, in which case I set it to 100% (but it never stayed there for more than 6-12 hours).
