Help me cut $10k from my order

I have my dream build, but it's too expensive. I need some help getting this under $130k (130 is my max). I posted separately about Burmester vs. Bose, I still want the Burmester but recognize it's the biggest money suck on this order. Would love some feedback and opinions please! My freeze date keeps moving, it was 8/26, then 9/8, then 9/14, now 9/21....so it seems I have some time.

I am torn between Truffle interior and Chalk/Black (US), but I included the Truffle since it's more expensive so this would be the max configuration:

You are right, lose the Burmester and opt for the Bose. By all accounts the Bose is an excellent choice, especially in the Taycan. Unless you are an audiophile and intend to sit quietly in your garage listening to classical music I'd say swap the Burmester for the Bose and you are there

Have you looked at a 4S? You seem to be in that price territory anyway.

If you're committed to the RWD - agree with dropping the Burmester.

Burmester is just so hard to justify for an almost $6k premium over bose, especially for car audio which never is that high quality anyways.

Other things to consider cutting

• Tech package, and just keep ACC only (-$2290). Passenger Display, HUD and Remotepark are just gimmicks
• Change to Chalk/Black leather. I think the combo is a lot more striking than all brown anyways (-$1870). While Olea is nicer leather and you get seatbacks, I think the standard is plenty esp. if you're looking to cut budget
• 4 Zone climate control (-$990). It's a small cabin. Everyone is going to be a similar temp anyways. Plus this isn't really a great place for adult rear passengers to spend extended time, so mostly wasted. If it's for younger kids, they're probably too young anyways to care.
• Illuminated Black Doorsills (-$1310). How often do you really drive at night, and will really pay attention to this?
• Exterior Color painted wheels (-$1290). While a nice touch, the standard silver color isn't that far off the white anyways. It's a lot of money for just some paint on the wheels
• Other exterior fluff including mirror gloss trim, window trim, puddle projectors, rear designation (-$1630). RWD comes with matte black window trim, and mirrors. While these items are nice trim pieces to have, I think it's pretty incremental and won't change the look massively
• Armrest and Rear headrest stitching, but keep the front. (-$730)
• Intelligent Range Meter (-$300). People say this isn't that useful since all it does is adaptively changes AC and max speed. Eco mode already does this and is standard. Also this can be downloaded later via FoD

As a side note, at this MSRP level, you need to get the Performance Battery Plus, which you don't currently have optioned. I'd highly suggest exchanging burmester for PBP which are the same cost, as from a resale perspective many people will want the larger battery. No one will want to buy a high option build that doesn't have PBP, so your resale % is going to take a large hit because the used buyers who are ok with standard battery are looking for a cheaper / lower MSRP car. Also just from a featureset standpoint, it's by far more useful than burmester. Small battery makes the most sense for people who are going for budget RWD builds that are around $100k or less, who want to get the benefits of the Taycan platform and not much other fluff.

The above cuts (excluding Burmester) equals just over $10k, and still keeps some options that some might consider cutting that others really enjoy (thermal glass, sound, charging cover, RAS, Sport Chrono).

Swap the Burmester for PBP, and MSRP is just at $125k. You can add back some of the items I listed above that you feel you really need, or burmester if it's an absolute must have, and be around or under $130k

Agree with this. You're right around the price we're paying for a nicely optioned 4S. The differences between our builds are mainly the wheels/brakes and the tech package.

I didn't see the utility of the passenger screen for that price and we decided we'd rather have the 4s performance over the wheels (which could be added later if desired).

The issue was when I built my 4S the way I want, it was at $150k. So I decided to stay with RWD

This as well - to build on my previous post discussing your RWD being a high option build,
there's a reason I advocate for cutting cosmetic fluff and gimmicks from options lists first.

Thinking about resale, buyers typically will have criteria of "must haves" vs. "nice to haves" or "don't care". Most cosmetic items like black trim or painted wheels and tech gimmicks like passenger screens, HUD, night vision, and burmester are very much on the "nice to have" or "don't care" lists. So resale wise, not having any of those items isn't going to stop a buyer from being interested in your car. On the flip side, the larger battery may be the single biggest "must have" for most buyers - they won't even consider a car without it.

This is to say, certain options are big value adds to most used buyers that they'll happily pay more for. This includes bumping up to a 4S model. I'd hesitate in general to option an RWD much over $120k, because you really are pushing into 4S territory. On the used market, say you're looking to recuperate 70% residual after a few years. Buyers will be choosing between your high option RWD that probably has a lot of options they don't care about, vs. moving up to a 4S. There's a reason leases usually cap the number of options that can be included in the residual calculation, they realize this pretty well too

I think I’d go with a skinnier 4S rather than full fat RWD but that’s just a personal POV on what level of oomph you need in a sporty car

Had illuminated sills on Range - no one but me was noticing and even I ended up not caring after a couple of years.

For my climate where temperatures do drop below 10c half of the year, I’d go PB+

Skip Olea, full 2 tone will be beautiful and works best with white / mission Es futuristic styling

I’d definitely skip metallic paint - base white is nicer imho on a stormtrooper spec and the body colour painted wheels will look nicer in flat white rather than metallic

I think tech package is overkill

Rear axle probably is too - car handles great without…

Found the Bose good for what I’ll be doing - listening to compressed Spotify over BT while driving on crappy country lanes tarmac!

Thoughts on whether having Truffle in a RWD will hurt resale? Is it better to go chalk/black?
