[North America] - this is getting embarrassing - Porsche nerfing/neutering the PMCC via OTA update?

Nightmare but I'm assuming this is region specific?

I like my 32A just as they are!
No that is not correct.I had my major software on my Taycan 4s which included bringing in the Porsche charger and having the software updated as well.I can still set the amperage at 40 amps but like before the system cannot handle 40 Amps and shut itself down at that level due to overheating.I turned the amperage down to 30 Amps and that results in a full charge to 90% without the system shutting down. However i agree this is a terrible charger my Tesla friends have no problem charging at 40 plus amps using the Tesla charger

It is correct. Only North America has this restriction and by the way we all got the same PMCC update OTA which in North America defaults the current to 20A.

The reason for bringing to the dealer was to ensure you had the update as not everyone has their PMCC connected to the cloud.

Thx

Well i live in North America ie Florida.I brought in the charger and the car for the latest software update and Porsche charger still let me set it at 40 Amps ie maximum but as said before I downtuned to 30 amps in order to not overheat the system resulting in a shutdown

PMCC and software version 2925
software version 3014 will limit you to 50% each time the unit powers up - it will do the update over OTA if you let it

Interestingly this version hasn’t shown up for me and I’m still on 2914. I turned off auto-update but it tells me 2914 is the latest version!

Is it connected to the internet?

If so then potentially Porsche have pulled the update.
lol; sounds like I am calling an IT desk, did I try reboot :)

yes, I verified all the above :). That’s why I posted my comment - wondering if they pulled it after all the complaints about this change.

hmmmm very very interesting

I have two PMCC that were included with vehicle (2020 Taycan & 2021 Cayenne eHybrid)

one PMCC is updated
the other PMCC is _NOT_ updated

the non-updated PMCC says there is NO UPDATE available - last week it was pestering me every day about the update but I declined -now it claims there is no update

hmmmmm - Porsche may have pulled it as others have suggested…

Must have sniffed the threat of a class action ?

I wonder if the new default is 30A or 20A but the customer change should last a reboot if someone so desires to run it higher - I.e. was that part a bug rather than a “feature”; or maybe they hadn’t considered the scenario of an owner that set it higher and then it rebooted overnight and now someone is waking up to a car not charged to the level they expected and required that day….

It could be worse. I was looking at alternative chargers, including the ChargePoint Home Flex. From what I can tell based on lots of recent posts by people, ChargePoint reset their charger to 20 amps, too. Furthermore, the ChargePoint app no longer lets you set the current to a higher value. Supposedly you have to call ChargePoint tech support *each time you want to charge* as it resets to 20 amps after each use.

I’ll caveat my post by saying that I have no personal experience with this. It seems that everybody acknowledges that the current’s been set to 20, and setting it with the app has disappeared. But, again, I have no personal experience. Point is, the Porsche charger could be worse.
[Removed per corrected info from Bill33525 on a subsequent post]

Am thinking about getting a Pulsar Plus. Looks like Austin Energy might pay 50%, and the feds pay another 30%, so might be a nice alternative. The Grizzl-E Smart Charger doesn’t supply its own app, so neither Grizzl-E nor ChargePoint are in the running as a replacement for me personally.

Cheers,
John
