Is there any way to mute the sound played in the cabin when the car moves at low speed?

I just hit the 1.000 km milestone and I find the car amazing. Flawless so far (even the PCM is not as bad as I thought).

But I do have a minor problem and I wish somebody can suggest a fix to it: I would like to mute the sound that I hear every time I accelerate/decelerate at low speed. It drives me crazy when I have to travel in the city traffic (often for more then an hour).

I know that alerting pedestrians is necessary (and an acoustic alerting system, aka AVAS, is mandatory, at least in Europe) but I do not see why a sound must be audible in the cabin.

Perhaps it can be disabled via PCM? Or by a dealer with some hidden setting? Or it comes from a dedicated speaker that can be destroyed with a hammer? :)

I have found the same question in other threads, but no solutions as the discussion veered off topic, so to be clear:
- I am not talking about the optional “sport sound” (I do not have it)
- I do not think it's just "natural” sound from the motors (my Tesla is quiet, especially at low speed).
- It's not the AVAS coming from outside (again my TESLA is quiet despite a much worse insulation)
- I know that many people do not mind that sound, or even like it and want it louder. I respect their opinion.

You can't adjust it

If you are referring to the Electric Sports sound then you can turn this off.

No, not the Sport Sound. I explored all PCM settings and you are right: no adjustments. But I still hope to find a trick to disable it…

I'm aware there is a legal requirement for the car to emit sound so pedestrians can hear it, but maybe there is a requirement for the driver to hear some sound as an audible alert that their car is "active".

I also own a BMW 330e, and in electric mode when coming to a stop, for example at traffic lights, the artificial noise seems to get louder, possibly intentionally to keep me aware that the ignition is on and I could lurch forward should I touch the accelerator.

Maybe find the loudspeaker and disconnect it ?
I suspect it's the same speakers used by the BOSE system. If not, that could be a solution.

see this:

They call it soundaktor in the VW brand. Maybe they are the same.

I would suspect that it's easy to disable via obdII

Not to mention warranty limiting and possibly insurance limiting.

I don't see what the issue is, the sound is absolutely not intrusive (Sport Sound is and I have mine off all the time).

Thanks!
It's probably the same concept. The guy in your video is just pulling a fuse, but searching for "soundaktor" I found that can also be set via OBDII!
Before tampering with my own OBDII I will ask the dealer if they can do it with the PIWIS (although I suspect the answer will be NO as it will void the warranty).

I just want to limit the internal sound, not the mandatory AVAS. In the meantime I found a Porsche's newsletter where they explain what they did: "The Porsche engineers also adapted this sound (the AVAS, ndr) so that it is as emotive, sporty and powerful as possible within the framework of the legal regulations." Perhaps it can be set (via OBDII as some suggested) as required by the regulation, but with as little "emotion" and "sportyness" as possible.

I find it very intrusive, especially after an hour driving in town (but see the last bullet point in my question :) ).

I don't hear anything - not sure we're talking about the same thing then. I can hear the external pedestrian warning faintly if I put my window down. What you are describing does sound more like the electric sport sound which is clearly audible inside and outside (deeper tone etc). Pedestrian sound doesn't sound either emotive or sporty IMHO.

I don't have sport sound and my car (RWD saloon) is really quiet at low speeds.
I would say exceptionally quiet.

I assume UK and EU laws are similar on sound levels for pedestrian?

I would have a go in another similar Taycan without Sport sound and see if its the same as yours.

Interesting. @W1NGE is telling me the same thing. I think the law is the same (introduced in EU July 19, before you guys left).

Perhaps it depends on the audio system? I have BOSE, what about you?

I do not think it's an issue with my car: I had a loaner for a week with Sport Sound and even when Sport Sound was off the internal sound, although different, was really loud inside until I reached 50km per hour (then the car is silent). Anyways, I am going to check with my dealer.
