My Taycan 4S that I ordered 8 months ago has finally arrived stateside and delivery is scheduled for next week. Needless to say, I am beyond excited about finally getting the car. I am trading in my Model 3 Performance and excited about the transition. I ordered Ice Grey Metallic with painted Mission E wheels, high gloss black window trim, and other trim/model options in black.

One big mistake I made was not to spec the power charging port. Did not realize the black trim pieces/sensor would not be there without this and how "naked" this would look as I had not seen other cars without this option until now.

I found the two pieces online below:

https://parts.byersporsche.com/p/por...62238BOK1.html

https://parts.byersporsche.com/p/Por...relatedProduct

My question is if I can order these and stick them on the car. Would this be pretty simple? I just want it for the aesthetics because it really changes the look of the car. Has anyone tried this before or can anyone comment on it that has the power charging port and can look at the parts up close?

Thank you

Hmm not sure - the sensor has a wire attached to it and so either you'd have to remove it or drill a hole for no other purpose (I would not do that). Clearly the manual doors open and operate differently and so not easy to retrofit.

I would live with it first to see how you go.

You're right. I was even thinking of removing the wire part of the sensor then attaching it only if drilling is not involved. I think if the fenders and the power charge door size or the same as the non-power door size then it might actually work.

Sizes are the same as far as I can see but why not search the forum as someone came across an alternative to provide the black strip (without the actual sensor bump) if this is the cosmetic you're after.

Personally, I would leave as is.

The charge port door looks better flush with the surface IMHO, although the powered door action itself is very cool
When it works!

Mine failed once and the door cover fell off and has never been re-fitted properly by the dealer (a challenge too far).

I feared malfunction, particularly during deep winter, so I de-specced the powered door… Although the drawback with the manual door is that it protrudes quite a bit when open.
Indeed - there is always that concern but there is a manual way to open in case of failure.

They are not the same size. The power door is smaller. Also, if the non power door swings in the direction of the tail of the sensor wing, it would hit said tail and not open fully. The power door slides up and in rather than swinging open sideways. If the non powered door swings to the front of the car on both sides, it might work, assuming it is stick on and not drill through.

Yes I believe the door swings forward and the manual door is a bit larger

Amazing different people's reactions to trim; I originally did not want to get the power charging port door specifically because the black trim element to me ruined the clean lines of the car. I optioned it anyway because of the convenience, but I never once thought that it looked better than the car without it!

You are right. I spec’d it too but for the opposite reason that you did….

It’s great that we can have such differing views on the same things. It’s what makes the forum interesting.

I always felt the black trim looked good on light colored cars (the whites, blues, etc) as I felt that the big charge door and that area looked bland or plain (it disappears on the dark colors so not as noticeable). Guessing this is because so many cars and trucks have some sort of badging or trim there.

I have a black car, but got the powered charging doors as I liked the gimmick of how it opened and even on my black car like the black trim.

the electric door is amazing because it also closes automatically when you unplug it.
