Tesla Model S, GTS ST on order

Even with 19” wheels the Porsche has 30mm wider tyres than a model S.

Without being too rude to Tesla I have always thought a substantial part of the reason for their good range is their being under-tyred.
245 wide on Tesla S compared to 275 with 19” wheels, 285 with 20” wheels and 305 with 21” wheels on the Taycan.
Drag is close to being proportional to width. Maybe rolling resistance too.
I think you're take is spot on. Tesla don't have the performance chops that Porsche do and are leaning more on efficiency a very easy way to do that is cut rolling resistance with the narrower contact patch.

That said I'm getting those figures running fairly soft pilot super sports on mine with the 255 21' wheels. I've (thankfully) not yet found the car lacking in any way for grip but I'm sure it would be a completely different story on a track, it's not the most composed thing if you try chucking it about.

Glad most people are getting the same as me right now. Avg is 2.2mi/kwh after 1000 miles of driving (mostly motorway, Eco AC, and mostly in normal mode). It could do with a bit more tbh as I can't quite get a return trip on my normal roundtrip journey (105mi each way) without a quick charge on the M4! At least I've not had any issues with chargers yet. Finding them to be utterly reliable so far. Apart from that the car is fab!

Actually driving behind anything with a lot of drag helps range/fuel consumption enormously.

SUVs and delivery vans are effective and going faster than the trucks...

You don't need to get dangerously close to get a benefit either.
I'm certain people have been doing this behind me on my frequent road trips for the last couple of years between the UK and Holland. It can be the only explanation for some of the behaviour I've observed. Leaving Calais at midnight and finding a German hatchback sat on my rear bumper for the entire length of Belgium.

I had this yesterday on the A7 to Marbella - must like the box like shape of the Citroen !

Pretty similar over last week or so. I seem to be getting about 2.2-2.3 on outbound journeys (of ~80 miles) and 2.6 on the way back - i.e. when i'm being more twitchy about range!

Last night my car showed 88 miles at 41% charge.

Cold snap and car has thawing snow on it and range now shows…. 94 miles

go figure!
